Another Nifty Little Kitchen Gadget-Mini Blender Jar

Many of you have asked what gadgets are essential to making baby food. Many are nice to have, but not necessarily needed. A few weeks back I was at my in-laws for dinner and I wasn’t expecting on staying and course I didn’t bring any food for Carter (which by the way taught me a lesson and I now I never leave home without something to feed him and an emergency bottle). I was complaining about having to run out to the store to buy something, when she spoke up and mentioned she had her blender and an attachment she USED when my husband was a baby for his food!!  She pulled out a small blender jar which I remember my mom having growing up. I don’t have these and haven’t seen them in stores but many of you might have received them in with your blender. Also the mouth of the jar is a standard size, so it fits many different blenders!

My wonderful mother-in-law had several and gave me a couple to take home. Honestly, I put them down with my blender and forgot about them until yesterday. Yesterday, I remembered I bought avocados last weekend for Carter that were perfectly ripe. But I didn’t want to pull out my food processor (it is down stairs put away and is a hassle to clean up if I am not using it for multiple items)  and make the puree, but last week when I gave him a little mashed avocado he DID NOT approve and gagged the whole time.  So in disgust I started downstairs when I remembered the mini jars that my m-i-l gave me. What a perfect time to test them out since I didn’t want to make a big batch of puree. I made him avocado and banana puree. The blender made it the consistency of pudding. And actually I told my 2 year old, Evan, it was pudding so he sat up  at the table with Carter and ate some “pudding” also. Which he thought was really cool to be eating with Carter, “big boy” food. What was so nice about this attachment was that I could make a small amount without using the large blender or processor. And I took the mini-jar to the table and used it as a bowl, so I didn’t have to dirty any more dishes, which makes me even more happier. So I wanted to pass it on to you, just in case you have one and didn’t think to use it. Or, in case you want to purchase on, you can click here.

I suspect I’m your mom’s age, as I had those too. If your blender assembly fits that, you may discover that it also fits pint mayonnaise jars. (do they still sell those, or is it all about the squeezy bottles now?) There also used to be a brand of jam sold in the southeast which used the same sized jar.

That is totally awesome! I have a small food processor (about $10 at Wal-Mart or any other store) and it’s almost the same idea.

I wonder if there’s one of those for my personal blender. I have one of the blenders that blends into a cup, but doesn’t have a large attachment. It’s mainly for making individual servings of shakes.

this post prompted me to discover that my Oster blender blades fit onto my canning jars!! I was so happy I could have danced. My husband didn’t seem to “get” the novelty of my discovery!!
