Blogs you should visit: Part 5 | OAMC from Once A Month Mom

Blogs you should visit: Part 5

It’s been awhile since I have done this but I thought I would pick it back up this week. I thought I would tell you which food blogs I am currently following. These are blogs that are primarily focused on bringing us good things to eat. I gotta love that. I really don’t follow that many to be honest. At least not for someone who pulls menus together each month. So, if you have a food blog you would like me to take a look at or you know of a great food blog you think that I should follow make sure you provide a link or leave a comment below. I really love exploring new food blogs.

Food Blogs I Follow:

  • $5 Dinners – I’ve mentioned Erin many times. She is a “Big Deal Mom“. She is one of the first bloggers I ever met in real life when she graciously agreed to meet me for coffee and help me out with sit development ideas before I ever launched OAMM (and soon to add roomie to the list). She is all-round great person (and she cooks inexpensive dinners ever evening). It’s a great place to stop for menu ideas and ways to cut $ out of your food budget.
  • Vanderbilt Wife – Not exactly a an exclusive food blog but she does talk a lot about food and has some great recipes on her site. It helps that we are related so I like pretty much all of her recipes – it’s family. She also hosts a Family Recipe Friday where you can stop and get lots of ideas from her and her readers about family friendly foods.
  • Cooking During Stolen Moments – Kate does a great job (in my opinion) of presenting lots of meal ideas that your kids will love. I must admit that this is one of favorite food websites. I would say 8 out of 10 meals that she posts make my mouth water. I think it also helps that I can imagine myself cooking these items too. They are practical and easy. I also frequent her site when I am choosing OAMM monthly meals. You will rarely see a month that doesn’t have a recipe from Kate.
  • Carrie’s Cooking – Another great “Big Deal Mom” that lives close by and shares bloggy life. She has some very practical dishes that are pretty tasty. She also has a freezer friendly section which makes my life a bit easier when searching for monthly menu items.
  • Calm in the Kitchen – Who doesn’t like a blog whose header greets you with the icing on a cupcake each and every time? I get cravings just looking at that header. Besides that she has some great and practical recipes for you to choose from.
  • My Wooden Spoon – A Cowboy’s Wife – She wrangles (children), shoots (amazing photos), blogs, and somewhere finds time to rustle up some grub (cook). I am impressed. I frequent this site as well when I am trying to find great recipes to include on our monthly menus.

Alright, those are the food blogs that have made it into my Google Reader. In the last few weeks quite a few other tasty blogs have crossed my eyes, but let’s just start with these.

Now it is your turn. Do you have a food blog? Do you have food blogs that you love to visit? Please feel free to include the URL of either in the comments. I would LOVE to hear about some of your favorites. I am always looking for great sites to visit and add to our OAMM menus.

I definitely vote for Pioneer Woman. I just wish she had a subscription option.

As a fellow freezer cook, 30 Day Gourmet may already on your list. But it’s how I started freezer cooking, so I’m a fan. http://www.30daygourmet.com.

So I gotta put a plug in for my own blog, Balancig Act Basics. I post lots of recipes, some my own, some given to me, some I found, and I almost always turn regular, everyday recipes into freezer meals. If it’s a recipe that sounds good, I’ll make it into a freezer meal if I can figure a way to do so. :)

The link for my July OAMM freezer meal plan is here:

I am using your Ham & Potato Pockets recipe as one of my meals, although I will make it from scratch the day I serve it this time. :)

I also like Melissa’s Bargain Blog. We went to college together and have been close friends ever since. She provides the recipes with her weekly Menu Plan Monday. She really knows her stuff, so if she posts a recipe, you know that it’s going to be good!

Her menu plans will sometimes include a freezer meal, which may help you with an idea or two for your menu.
