Boys Breakfast: A New Family Tradition

One of the many things that I love, love, love about my husband is his desire to build traditions and memories with our son. He is such an amazing dad.

About a month ago, in an effort to give mom (yours truly) a little “sanity” time, he took our son out for breakfast on Saturday morning. He packed up the little guys breakfast, got him out of bed, dressed him and headed to one of daddy’s favorite spots, Panera Bread. There daddy got his fill of egg souffle while Isaac worked on his french toast sticks (okay and a bit of dad’s egg souffle). All the while mom slept peacefully at home enjoying one morning of blissful (at least as much as you can have at 8 months pregnant) sleep.

And a tradition was born. My husband was so excited when he returned. He declared that Saturday morning was now their new designated time for “Boys Breakfast”. Oh, darn I said. :) Ya, right. Sounds good to me!

IsaacBfastHonestly, I am a bit jealous, I like time with daddy too. But I know that time is treasured among the two of them and they really enjoy it. And it warms my heart, as I am warming the bed, to know that they are spending time together doing something they both love, eating.

Today, father and son are headed to Panera Bread bearing a toy for an area needy child. The Panera Bread‘s in the Dayton, Ohio area are partnering with the United States Marine Corps in its Toys-For-Tots annual toy drive. The are accepting new, unwrapped toys from November 16-December 2. Gifts forĀ  toddlers to teens are in need, focusing on the age range of 8-12.

And I am sure that there are other places around the country who are doing similar campaigns. What a great lesson to teach your children by having them contribute!

And as for family traditions, it is never too late to start them. What do you like to do for fun? To relax? Would your child benefit from seeing you in that spot/place? Have you ever considered taking them along? Whether is the local coffee shop or the local hardware store, there are plenty of opportunities for us to create memories and traditions with our children. And remember, they benefit from alone time with each parent.
