Toddler Cheese Twists Recipe

These cheese twists are similar to a biscuit but are prepared in a fun way.  I made up a batch of these and stored them in the freezer.  They made a great compliment to the White Chicken Chili that I prepared for my kids.  Just a few seconds in the microwave and they taste almost like they are fresh from the oven.

Ingredients:

  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup butter, chilled and diced
  • 6 tablespoons ice water
  • 4 tablespoons Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 1 egg

Directions:

Preheat oven to 400 degrees.  In a large bowl mix flours and salt.  Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.  Slowly add enough water to form a soft dough.  Stir in parmesan cheese.  Turn dough out onto floured surface and knead lightly.  Roll dough out to a 1/8 inch thickness.  Cut into 1 inch wide strips, twist, and place on baking sheet.  In a small bowl, beat egg.  Brush strips with beaten egg and bake for 15 minutes until twists are golden brown.

Freezing Directions:

Cool completely and transfer to gallon freezer bags.  To serve: heat in microwave until heated through.

Servings: 12 (2 twists per serving)
