Classic Homemade Yogurt Banana Bread
As long as I have been a mom, I have been making banana bread. But I never settled on that one recipe that I (or the kids) truly loved. I tried different variations, from adding chocolate chips or dried fruit, to applesauce and even peanut butter. Don’t get me wrong – all these versions were promptly scarfed by the kids and me, but it wasn’t until I experimented with adding vanilla flavored yogurt to the batter that I finally got IT! The all time, hands down favorite banana bread recipe of all time.

I’m guessing the vanilla flavored yogurt is the kind that’s sweetened? I keep unflavored plain greek yogurt on hand all the time – would that work if i added some vanilla to it and thinned it out a little with some milk? But then it would not have any sweetener in it. Hmmm. Let me know what you think. I can always pick up a carton or two of the small individual serving sizes of vanilla yogurt so i’ll have some handy. Any suggestions on brand or style to get to be like what you used? Thanks for this great recipe!
Angie – you can certainly sub the Greek Yogurt for the Vanilla yogurt. You may lose a little of the sweetness, but you could add honey or agave nectar to the greek yogurt if desired. I used Yoplait French Vanilla in mine – and I buy when they are on sale and then freeze in ice cube trays so they are handy when I need them for baking.
Great! Thanks! Great ideas!
Tks for the recipe and tip on freezing yogurt!
I’m assuming this is using regular flour. Could you give a coconut flour equivalent maybe? I’m new to this wheat free lifestyle and never been much of a cook to begin with so any help is appreciated. Blessings and thanks in advance :)
Felicia-
I am still researching how you might replace coconut flour. It isn’t an easy 1:1 ratio substitution. Do you have a gluten free baking flour?
Thank-you for a great recipe! I made this today and it is really good! I substituted plain whole milk yogurt and added a splash more vanilla and was very peased with the results!
I made this and it was a big hit. I used blueberry yogurt because I ran out of the vanilla.
Oh I bet the Blueberry Yogurt was a good flavor combination!
