Test Cooks
Each month we have some wonderful volunteers who “test” out the menu prior to publication. They do an amazing job of helping to eliminate confusion and mistakes. They may not catch everything but they sure do catch A LOT! If you are interested in test cook, feel free to volunteer. Here is a little bit about this month’s test cooks:
- Shanna Freeman: I’m a freelance writer for both the Web and print, and mostly work at night while caring for my toddler during the day. I enjoy baking and cooking healthy, from-scratch meals, trying to balance my adventurous palate with the more pedestrian tastes of my family. You can find samples of my work at about.me/shannafreeman.
-
Amy Haines: My name is Amy Haines and I have been happily married to my best friend, Wade, for almost eight years now. We seem to be starting a small zoo at home with our 3 cats (Sasha, Zara and Sirius Black) , 2 cockatiels (Buster and Sweetie), parrot (Louie), and 3 aquariums. I enjoy reading, cooking, baking goodies from scratch and crocheting.
Get Started
Are you new to Once A Month Mom or once a month cooking (oamc) in general? If so, you might want to spend a few minutes (or hours) on the Get Started Series. If you are in a real hurry to catch on we have written some simple steps for getting started. Welcome!

Um, there are loads of mistakes in the grocery list and the recipe cards. The grocery list doesn’t have beef broth listed on it, so far I ahven’t found any other problems, but the recipe cards chopping prep list wants me to use something like 400+ cloves of garlic, 58 cups of onion, and 24 bunches (or 16 cups) of fresh basil. The other amount look more reasonable, though it’s asking for me to yeild eight cups of cilantro from .56 bunches. I’m cooking for 8. (well, four, but I’m just doubling so we have enough meals for the whole month+)
Crystal, the formulas were correct at testing and final edits, but something went askew. They should be fine now.
Hi there…my husband and I are just beginning our once a month journey and he noticed that the grocery list did not match up with the chop list (as above). Were the corrected documents ever attached? He made corrections himself, but we would like to double check them before hitting the stores. Thanks!
Cassie, I had to make a few adjustments but you should be fine now!
(For 4 servings) Chopping list should read: Meat needed & Thaw sections: 40 oz chicken breast(not 10). 32 oz ground chicken (not 64). Chopping list: 1 cup chopped basil (not 0.5), Missing Chopped carrots (2 cups), 0.5 cups chopped cilantro (not 1.98), 6.5 cups diced onion (not 14), 0.5 cups chopped parsley (not 2).
Found some other errors, but more minor.
Thanks for the menu!
Amy thanks for the catch. I updated a few things. You should be fine now.
Do you think the calories on the baked falafel are right? Maybe it includes pita bread? 427 calories seems high.
From my calculations that is correct. It does include the bread.
I love the Peppermint Smoothie. It’s on my permanent breakfast rotation now, thanks!
