Test Cooks
Each month we have some wonderful volunteers who “test” out the menu prior to publication. They do an amazing job of helping to eliminate confusion and mistakes. They may not catch everything but they sure do catch A LOT! Here is a little bit about this month’s test cooks:
- Unfortunately, with the holidays we had some problems with getting test kitchens for this first menu. Please be kind and understand there are likely to be some mistakes this first go round. We will get better as the months go on!

Thank you so much for these recipes! I am loving the new “diet” I’m about to start this month. And my family, too!
I’m so excited to prepare this menu! Thank you so much. I also wanted to point out that the hummus is not on the Grocery List (just thought you should know) :)
Happy New Year!!!
Thanks for letting me know! It’s added now :-)
Spinach meatballs are so yummy! But my hubby is super picky and won’t eat them if he can see the spinach, so I puree it in my magic bullet. It’s healthy and he’ll eat it without complaining :)
Wow…even ww P+!!! Thank you soooo much!!!!
Love this!!!
Kristi:)
I’m loving that this is a diet menu but it doesn’t have any weird-o ingredients! My family will actually eat most of this!
I guess that’s a good thing?!
Clearly, I am challenged, but I have a question. When you say this is for 1 person, do you mean quantities for 1 family of four, or one single person. It’s looking like the quantities are small for a family of four.
Thanks.
In the case of this menu it is for 1 person, not a family of four. The format is changed a bit for this menu. I am sure you are not the only one with this question.
Thank you! Just wanted to make sure because it usuually is
a family of four for the 1 menu.
I hear ya! Good chance that eventually the other menu will move to this format too. Just need to work on transition first. ;)
This is my first time on your site, it is great! I am a little confused about the quantities. so does the grocery list need to reflect 4 people if you are cooking for a family of 4? And what about the recipes? they indicate multiple servings..
Thanks for asking. I know it’s confusing the first time!! Each menu will provide 15-20 breakfast items, 20 lunches, and 25 dinners. So, that would provide about a month’s worth of meals for one person, or a week’s worth for a family of 4. There’s a yellow box on the recipe cards and grocery list that you can input the number of people you will be cooking for and it will automatically recalculate the ingredients needed. You can read more here http://onceamonthmom.com/welcome-to-diet-once-a-month-mom/
Tomorrow is my cooking day and I’m so excited! Thanks for the diet menu!
Looks great! Thanks for including the PointsPlus numbers!!
This looks terrific! Thank you soooo much for putting it together!
This one is in my regular veg rotation:

I did my very first once a month cooking session today- and oh my do I love to look into my freezer and see all of those nicely labeled bags of goodness. But also- I am tired! And still have dishes to clean.
I’m sure you’re tired! But, it will be more than worth it the rest of the month. Congratulations on completing your first session!!
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! I’m so excited to see a healthier option this month! I hope this is an addition that will be sticking around! :-)
I LOVED the meatballs!!! My husband loved them, too, and he thinks he doesn’t like any healthy food. We had them last night on sandwiches and I have plenty still frozen for spaghetti…LOVE the new menu!!!!
I’m thrilled you like the meatballs and the menu!!! I just wish I had created the meatball recipe :-) but I agree that the creator did an amazing job!
So i bought some of the stuff i will need today but i have a few questions. What section do you usually find the carob chips and oat bran in? I looked but did not see it at all and i didnt really want to ask anyone as the store was busy.
Oh, that’s a great question. Both are usually located on the health food isle but sometimes the carob chips are located by the chocolate chips and the oat bran by the flour. Not every single store will carry those ingredients but most of the major chains should.
I was interested in trying out some of the recipes from this menu on our next OAMC day (we pick and choose what works best for our family), but I noticed that one of the recipes lists “cans” of tuna (Hummus Tuna Wraps). What size? I know our grocery store sells the 3oz. the 5 (or 6) oz., and the 12 oz. cans.
Oh, great question. The nutritional information is based off of 5 ounce cans but any size would work.
My mom and I are usually OAMC partners, but we thought we would skip it this month since we just started Weight Watchers Points Plus. What an awesome surprise to see this menu! Thank you so much. Now we are back on track!
Looks yummy! Can I please get verification that these are WW points plus values and not the old points values? I see people in the comments saying they are, but don’t see it anywhere in the blog post itself. I just want to make sure I am counting the correct amount when I eat these recipes.
They are the NEW Points plus points. I believe if you look at the labels and recipe cards they have both values. There is listed WW points and Points + Points + equals WW Points +. In coming months we will transition to only listing Points + amounts.
Having such a great time cooking up these DIET meals!! Have a quick question……on the Healthy Turkey Burgers…..I prepared mine as the recipe stated and they are slightly runny to form into patties. Was wondering what you would suggest to add to them to help with this issue that would freeze without any issues? bread crumbs? Also onion powder for the Healthy Turkey Burgers was omitted on the grocery list. Thanks!
So glad you tried it! Leaner meats often have a different textures so if you need to use bread crumbs that would definitely work. Even oatmeal could be a good option.
This is my first time trying OMAC. It never seemed healthy or food my family would eat until I found your blog. Thanks for all the work you put into it!
This is my first time cooking with OAMM and honestly one of the first times cooking. My boyfriend and I did this menu Saturday. Just want to say thanks. We made alot of food and also learned alot about cooking. He said this may motivate him to cook more.
That is fantastic! These are the stories we LOVE to hear!
Mission Complete: I have put in the freezer 72 individual breakfast and 40 lunch/suppers!!! We completed the meals as a family in 4 days. So much fun! Thank you so much for this wonderful web-site.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for this menu! My cooking day was this weekend and although I was exhausted, it was so worth it tonight sitting down to our first meal! The Black Bean and Roasted Pepper soup is a-MAZ-ing! :)
Yay! So excited to hear that this new menu is working for readers. It makes us so excited. Thank you for taking the time to share.

Tricia,
I finally am feeling good enough but I am super super super confused. the shopping list says 1 but your above you say it is for a family of 8? I am sooooo confused and I planned to cook tomorrow. Can you tweet me…..why is there 1 on the google docs top left number? How can I change that to 4(cause there is 4 of us) or is the 1 supposed to be for 1 month. #confused
@Elizabeth_N
Im new and very excited about your site! I need a little help though…I tried to download the recipe cards to Excel (so that I can adjust the number of people I am cooking for), however some the the directions are not translating through Excel. They just read “####” for example.
Please let me know what the best format is to download the recipe cards to so that i can still adjust the number of family members I’m cooking for, and still retrieve all of the recipe information.
Thanks!!!
Here is a post about how to make them your own: http://onceamonthmom.com/using-google-docs/. If you still are having trouble after trying to follow these directions, please let me know. I would say if you are having trouble moving them to Excel, simply follow the directions to create a Google Doc – that is what I do and tends to work best for me.
Can anyone who did this give me an estimate on how much it cost them to get everything? I am wondering if this will save me a good portion of my grocery budget or cost more! (for 2 people)
Thanks!
I asked the OAMM readers who had done this to respond via the Facebook page. You will find their responses here: http://www.facebook.com/onceamonthmom. I hope that helps.

Thanks for linking my meatballs :)
Just tried this menu…AWESOME. We’ve sampled the lasagna and the breakfast bread..my LITTLE kiddos are lapping it all up. Healthy cooking and little kids are not mutually exclusive, it seems. (Though it REALLY helps to let the kiddos help cook for more dubious ingredients like onions and peppers…they seem to overcome the fear of the food when involved in the cooking process.)
GREAT WORK, ladies!!
