Test Cooks

Each month we have some wonderful volunteers who “test” out the menu prior to publication. They do an amazing job of helping to eliminate confusion and mistakes. They may not catch everything but they sure do catch A LOT! If you are interested in test cook, feel free to volunteer. Here is a little bit about this month’s test cooks:

  • Amy Haines – I have been happily married to my best friend, Wade, for seven years now.  We seem to be starting a small zoo at home with our 3 cats (Sasha, Zara and Sirius Black) , 2 cockatiels (Buster and Sweetie), parrot (Louie), 2 fresh water aquariums and 1 salt water aquarium.  I have the greatest job in the world – laughing, playing and taking care of my precious 5-month old niece, Kinleigh Kay, for my wonderful brother and his wife.

There seems to be something funky going on with a couple of sheets in the recipe cards. the turkey club salad in particular is showing a calculation instead of the amounts, and a couple of sheets show some columns that probably were supposed to be hidden. Thanks for all you do, just wanted to let you know.

  2. brista says:

Hi! The Turkey and Bacon Club Salad link on this page goes to a different recipe.

    • Tricia says:

Hmm, it appears that there was a bit of a wrong title, right link. The recipe cards were a little messed up too so I am glad that you pointed that out. Got it fixed too.

  3. Scott & Vicky says:

We used this for the first time yesterday, cooking for the month. It was great. There were some issues in amount coordination between the shopping list/recipies/chopping amounts. Specifically the green peppers. The chopping amounts called for 26 cups of green peppers for a family of 4.

Everything else seemed to work out fine.

  4. Danielle says:

The instructions and labels both list a “Turkey and Bacon Club Salad” but I don’t see it in the recipes… Am I just blind (would not surprise me) or is something else going on here?

Btw, this is my second month with OAMM and I am loving it!

    • Kelly says:

Welcome and we’re happy that you are enjoying it! I believe that’s a typo it’s supposed to be the ham and broccoli pasta salad. I’ll look into it.

      • Cherie says:

I was looking at this last night. The recipe cards and grocery list include some ingredients for both recipes, but the recipe cards don’t use all of the ingredients. (turkey and bacon listed as ingredients, but not used in sinstructions…) I think they are mostly for the chicken pasta not the club salad. The instructions list the club salad..at least from what I can tell.

  5. Kim says:

Thanks so much for this! This will be my second month of cooking, and my family has loved it. Just one question/comment: Why does the sample instruction sticker show the nutrition information, and the actual labels only show the instructions? I would LOVE it if they would include nutrition information per serving. Thanks!

When I read about this diet menu it said it would have the Weight Watchers points posted but it doesnt on a couple :(

  7. Cristi says:

Finished cooking this weekend! Third time for me and getting a good rhythm down for my Mom and me. We ended up with extra Turkey sausage and broccoli this time though, my mom and I both. We do our shopping separate. So was wondering if there may be a formula err. Also it would be helpful if on the shopping list there could be a way to quickly see what each item is for what recipe. There are a couple recipes I don’t cook. But over all I love, love, love what you do here! You have changed my life / cook life. My husband loves that I do this. He gets dinner on a regular basis now! Thank you!

    • Tricia says:

So glad you are enjoying it. I will check on formula errors but it is most likely just an estimation guess, for example, sizes of stalks of broccoli vary. And as nice as it would be to be able to list recipes on the grocery list it is simply not plausible. It takes quite a bit more work to do that and we already put a lot of time in the menus. If ever we find a viable solution we will definitely go there.

    • Angela says:

      Cristi,

I don’t actually use the shopping lists they give here on the website. I use recipe software (there are several kinds out there – I use MasterCook). It’s not the greatest software in the world, but you can put your recipes into it, make meal plans and print shopping lists that pull your list directly from the recipes. It solves any calculation errors if you’ve entered your recipes correctly and if you cook a lot like I do, it can be very convenient to have all your recipes stored in a database. No more losing recipe cards and then trying to guess what the original recipe was.

It’s not for everyone, but just an idea in case you wanted a fix for the occasional error or if you only choose certain recipes to cook. That way you could have the software custom-make your shopping list to the particular recipes you are using! :)

  8. Cherie says:

The recipe cards list ingredients for both dishes in one card –specifically the ham, turkey and bacon. Of course, the cooking instructions don’t call for the turkey and bacon. The ingredients are also in the grocery list. The instructions list the club salad not ham salad….these are just my observations. I noticed only after I bought the extra ingredients. Now I’ll just track down the club recipe too :). P.s. sorry if I sent this through twice. Also sorry to further confuse thing bc my previous post says chicken not ham. Man I’m tired.

  9. Kathie W says:

Oh my goodness! Someone linked to a recipe (I think) from your website and I started exploring! I am so going to do this! Thank you!
One quick question that if you don’t know that is fine. I am due in August, do you think I could do extra portions periodically and have “extra” dishes that would last in a freezer for up to 3 months? Trying to plan ahead.

  10. Stacy says:

This will be my first time trying the diet menu. I thought the labels were supposed to print the nutritional info, am I wrong? Thanks

    • Tricia says:

Stacy- this is the ONE month where they don’t have them on there. We were between writers and it wasn’t able to happen. They are on the recipe cards still though. Sorry.

  11. Leslie says:

I’m a little confused when I changed the yellow box to two people the breakfast pizza says “yield: 8 slices” but containers needed 16. I don’t want to mess up my servings (esp my ww pts). For two people do i end up with 8 or 16 slices.

    • Kelly says:

There is an error in the container formula, we’ll fix it! But you will end up with 8 slices for two people.

  12. Tara says:

We did the whole menu and everything seems to have come out great. We especially love the cuban quesadillas, waffles and egg rolls at our house. Unfortunately the broccoli pasta tastes “bleh” at best, any ideas how we can fix that? Any additional sauce or something? I just hate to have to toss it.
