EWWW! What is that?

All the experts agree that when you are feeding your baby their first foods, your reactions make a world of difference. So tell me this, how can you open a jar of peas or bananas and keep a smiley face toward your child. Let me tell you that every time I opened one of those 2 choices with my oldest, I had to look away and gag first, then turn around with my happy mom face and say “mmmm, peas, these smell wonderful and I bet they taste wonderful too”. I could handle any of the other ones but those two almost sent me over the edge every time.
I can admit now, that I NEVER tasted any baby food with my first. I am super picky and the thought of putting any of it in my mouth grossed me out! So mature of me, I know. But I have come leaps and bounds. Maybe because when you make you own, it really doesn’t smell as bad or I would like to think I am becoming a more well balanced person (ha ha). But this week, I took the plunge. I tried for the very first time carrots, bananas AND peas. I can say proudly that I did not gag and when I actually offer it to my son, I won’t have to turn away first, give myself a pep talk and fake a big flashy smile!! I am growing up I guess.
Do you have any baby foods that creap you out…give us a laugh and post your stories!!

jar food bananas always yucked me out, too. My older son loves bananas, but never touched the jarred kind – I avoided blended flavors that included bananas, too. However, when I made my own food from bananas, he loved it. Even when I froze chunks of bananas and they turned a bit brown, he still gobbled them up once they defrosted and were mashed.
Glad I’m not the only one who gagged at baby food — some of the mixed meals really smell bad!
And I never understood “meat sticks”. Why would I give my child processed meats formed into sticks and then jarred with water? The jars on the shelf always reminded me of a lab experiment gone wrong!
Pretty much all of the vegetables creep me out. I love carrots, green beans, peas, and broccoli, yet the smell of ALL of those as baby food just grossed me out! Once you start getting into the turkey-mixed-with-vegetable dinners, then it gets REALLY disgusting. Some of those I felt really guilty about feeding my kids cause there was no way I’d ever let that stuff pass thru my lips!
I actually like the banana baby foods and all the veggies. The sweet potatoe is my favorite. But any of the meat ones are nasty. After my first I didn’t offer any meat baby foods. I just gave them the real thing.
I try it and if it was nasty I would toss it. That is why my kids never ate baby cereal. It tasted like wet cardboard.
Its time to start your herbs. I went to Siebenthaler`s and purchased a pkg of Thai basil to count the number of seeds. Too many to count, for 1.39 (you can get gardener discount) Odd lots has fiber pots for less than a nickel. If you ladies would pick out the herbs and pots and split the cost you would have plenty for you cooking fresh out of the garden for pennies a plant. You need three weeks indoors and plant outdoors after the last frost. This particular basil will look stunning in pots, and borders and add color to any pasta cuisine. The flowers are great for hummingbirds.
