Freezable Slow Cooker Pear Oatmeal Recipe

Pear Oatmeal

This fall oatmeal is a perfect combination of warmth for the winter months when pears are in season. Throw the the ingredients in the slow cooker before you go to bed and wake up to a wonderful aroma and a hot breakfast.

My son absolutely loves oatmeal. He eats it several times a week for breakfast and usually two packages at a time. I have to be honest, I am not a fan of oatmeal. Funny thing is, neither is my husband. So how we produced an oatmeal loving 2 year old is beyond me! But he does and I have been looking for a solution to making my own oatmeal opposed to making the store bought kind each morning.

The BEST part of this recipe for me was that he could help me prepare it. You might recall back with the bambu post I mentioned making oatmeal in the slow cooker while his friend was visiting. It was so much fun! And so easy. Just dump all of the ingredients into the slow cooker, stir, put the lid on and you are done! A few hours later – TA DA! Oatmeal! He absolutely LOVED it! And loved the fact that he made it.

  1. Oh yum! I’m totally adding this to my arsenal of slow cooker recipes! Thanks! Merry Christmas, too!

  2. This looks SO good! I LOVE oatmeal! Thanks!

  3. That’s so funny. My husband and I both dislike raisins and our toddler LOVES them…totally addicted. Like cries if she loses her snack trap of “rai-rays”. That aside, husband loves pears and so does our toddler. We will have to try this one. Thanks!

I am making this tonight! I double the recipe so that I will hopefully have plenty to freeze and pull out now that ODD goes back to school next week!

I am not a big oatmeal fan but decided to try it out anyways. It is Amazing! I am eating a bowl right now for lunch while taking a break from my big cooking day! Thanks so much!

Oh wow, this is going in my list of things to try this month! I bet my husband and I will love it!

I’ve been eyeing this recipe for quite a while, but I’ve never made oatmeal in the crockpot before. My question is whether people are finding the servings to be correct. When I make oatmeal on the stove, 1 cup of oats only makes 2 servings. Even with toppings, I’m hungry 2 hours later. Do the pears, raisins and walnuts make this recipe substantial enough that 1 cup of oats can be stretched to feed 8 adults?

Amy, I did actually make this recipe and I got eight 8-ounce servings out of it exactly. It depends on how much they eat but it did equal 8 cups. You will not be disappointed and will likely wonder why you didn’t try it sooner.

Wondering if you’ve ever experimented with steel cut oats in place of the “regular” flattened ones? I haven’t tried it yet but just bought some steel oats to try in the crockpot. Love to get your take.

I haven’t tried that but if you do I would love for you to check back and tell us how it went. I will put that on my “to do soon” list.

    • I haven’t tried this recipe yet, but I did make a crockpot apple oatmeal & used steel cut oats in it. It turned out best when I did the oats half & half. Hope that helps.

I just tried it with steel cut oats, but I added more liquid following an Alton Brown recipe. I used 4 cups of milk, but you could probably do it with 4 cups of water & 1/2 cup of half & half. Ours turned out very delicious!

Can soy milk (or other non dairy milk) be used in place of the cow’s milk?
