Gluten Free and Dairy Free Pork Chops and Apples
My family loves Cracker Barrel. I don’t know of many trips to see my parents that don’t involve a meal at Cracker Barrel. It is good “home cooked” food and offers a place for my kids to look at toys while waiting on their food. Bonus! My hubby loves to get the cinnamon apples so I didn’t expect these apples to get a compliment. I was wrong!! He said and I quote, “These are seriously better than Cracker Barrel.” There you have it folks. You can make them and impress your family! There won’t be a single one left! When you pair these apples and pork with rice you have a delicious, fall dinner.

Where does the brown sugar go? I don’t see it in the instructions.
I am so sorry! Yes, it gets mixed in with the nutmeg and cinnamon! Enjoy!
The brown sugar was left out of the instructions, I’m guessing we mix it with the spices? Sounds delish anyway. :)
Yes, I’m sorry. Add it to the nutmeg and cinnamon! Enjoy!
What type of apples did you use?
Karen, I used Gala apples. That is just my personal preference. You can use any apple that is sweet, such as Braeburn, Fuji, or McIntosh, just to name a few. I hope you enjoy!
Thanks for your response! Will be trying this recipe soon!
Mindy, Can’t wait to try the pork chops – but tell me please what looks so plump and tasty that is with the rice?
Hi Angela. I often add a handful of dried cranberries to cooked rice, just before serving. It adds a wonderful contrast! Let me know what you think!
This recipe says 2 pounds of pork chops will serve 2 people, I’m guessing there is a mistake here somewhere? Thanks.
Yes, Jolene, you are correct. It should either be 1 pound. I corrected this and it is correct in the recipe cards, the post was incorrect though. Thanks.
Am I understanding the freezer directions correctly? You don’t do anything to the apples accept mix in the spices and sugar?
That is true – you could soak them in a little lemon juice but really the seasonings will help them from overbrowning.
This has quickly become a family favorite. My daughter who is the pickest eater ask for this meal once a week. Super Yummy. Thanks for sharing
I’m making right now !
I LOVE this recipe – my 5 & 7 year old kids that never like the same thing both loved it as did my 13month old. Just finished making a triple freezer batch!
Is it safe to try and freeze partially cooked pork and then cook it again?
Yes – see the USDA’s recommendations.
This recipe was not as good as I had expected. I removed the pork chops and baked the apples for an additional half hour to soften their texture and maximize flavor.
Just made this, it was delicious!!!
