What an awesome idea! Thanks for all your work putting this together. I am going to try my hand at this and see how it goes!

I have a question about the 6 pounds of ground beef. After I brown it I will have 5 lbs or less, and the directions say to remove 4 lbs of the gr beef for the chili and use the remaining 2 lbs for the Mex Cornbread. Do I buy extra meat or do I try to account for shrinkage some other way. : )

Good question. The 6 lbs is the raw equivalent, you don’t need to buy more meat. You just need to divide it accordingly. I usually measure the cooked amount and put 4 parts into one dish and 2 parts into the other. Hope that helps!

Hi! I hate the mess and time involved with cooking, so I think I’m going to try this. To tell you a secret,I’m actually kind of excited! :) A few questions… you say 1.5 green beans… I’m assuming that means 1.5 pounds of fresh green beans? Also, the 12 pounds of beef stew… is that canned soup? Am I naive? Ha! One more thing – about how much did this cost you this month? I’m trying to plan around our budget, and would love to have just an estimate. Thanks so much!

Yes, that is 1.5lbs and it is 12lbs of beef stew meat, raw from the meat counter. Cost ranges by region of the country but I am usually able to purchase all of the grocery items for about $200-$300. That is for two families and about 60 meals. It is hard on the finances sometimes getting started but it has a big impact after the first month.
