I’m having a little trouble with the quantities on this. If I put in that I’m cooking for three people, it returns that I need 17 onions, 15 ounces of olive oil, 88 ounces of cannelini beans, 43 ounces of butter and 24 8×8 foil pans (those are the most notable numbers). I saved it as an Excel file; that’s what I’m supposed to do, right? Is this a mistake on my part, or does the file need tweaking? Or are these the actual amounts? Thanks!
Beth, I did notice a few things so I would download the sheet again. However the quantities are not that far off. You will need 20 onions, they are in seven of the recipes. You will need 88.5 ounces of cannellini beans which when you divide it by the can quantity 14.5, is only six cans. They are used in two recipes. The butter was off you will need 15 ounces. And the olive oil was off but only by a few ounces. 13.5 ounces isn’t a lot when you think about it spread out among several recipes. Please note that our lists and cards do go through test kitchens and these did not get noticed. Things should be correct now.
It does appear that the amount of gallon bags and 8 x 8 pans is way off for my 4 servings: 28 and 32 respectively. I advise that anyone go through the recipe cards to count up containers since those are always a little off on the menus IME.
Susan – I went through and repaired a broken formula in the sheet. Things should be working better now. Also keep in mind that each recipe is going to make double so there will seem to be more. I’m sorry you feel the numbers are off but we do pride ourselves in the efforts done here.
Kelly, please know that i DO very much appreciate this website and the fact that you and the test cooks put in all this time and effort so we can have these menus. Back when they had the submit your own menu contest I tried to do this and it is an INSANE amount of detail work and it is only reasonable that there are going to be some blips here an there. I’m very excited about this month’s menu. My comments are just meant to help other cooks, not to criticize you.
With that motive in mind, it appears that there may be a discrepancy in the amount of chicken from the recipe cards and the grocery list. For a 4 serving my grocery list says 11 lbs chicken breast but the recipe cards chopping list it calls for 7 lbs and when I count up the amounts from the individual recipe cards it is 9 lbs. HOpe this helps.
Susan – I checked both documents and there was a small typo but not significant. 11 lbs is correct for total amount of chicken for four servings. You will need nine lbs of chicken breasts, one pound of thighs and one pound of drumsticks. Seven pounds chicken breasts can be frozen beforehand for the pasta, and monterey chicken. The other two pounds of breasts cannot be frozen for the fried chicken and white chicken chili. They are separate line items on the chopping list for that reason. The remaining two pounds are for the drumsticks and thighs for the oven baked fried chicken. Does this help you out?
