Holidays Poll – yes, in June!

Sorry folks, with a little one on the way in December I am already starting to think ahead and try to get some thing underway for Once A Month Mom. I don’t want to leave you hanging at the end of the year.

One of things that I am curious about is your liklihood to actually do Once A Month cooking during the holiday season. On one hand, the holidays are really busy and trying to schedule a cooking day might be tough. On the other hand, money is usually tight during this time of year and the money you can save doing Once A Month cooking may really save your overall budget.

So if you could help me out by taking the poll in the right side bar, I would be very appreciative.

It will be essential that I keep up with the OAMC during Nov/Dec. That is my busiest time of the year (I’m a photographer) and even if it wasn’t, I have a thousand other things extra that I want to be doing during that time (extra cooking/goodies, crafts, etc) so I would still want to not have to worry about the meals!

With time short during Nov/Dec I would most likely do a shorter day of cooking that would give me less meals but at least leave something for those days I don’t have time to cook so maybe do a meal plan that is geared towards holiday foods- maybe just dinners that month. Just a thought.

I know that you didn’t ask for suggestions….but I had two thoughts –
    1. maybe for those Nov and Dec – the OAMC menus could be mostly recipes that are “no cook on your cooking day” – so the prep day could be shorter
    or
    2. we could cook more food in Sept and Oct and set it aside in the freezer and save it for Nov and Dec

Last Christmas season I was just dipping my toes into oamc and decided to prepare and freeze all of my holiday foods to bring to parties. For example I did giant batches of chex mix in my roaster and portioned them into party bowl portions, same with a delicious sweet potato dish and butterscotch gorp. Was a lifesaver.

You could include some holiday recipes for the actual day and for entertaining. Recipes for the day(s) before and after the holiday. If you have family in you don’t always want to treat them to dinner out or spend hours in the kitchen. I know the book Frozen Assets has a Thankgiving plan. That could give you some ideas.
