Hot Dog Croissants

This is a fairly simple recipe that you might find just about anywhere. But we thought we would tell you how we do it here in the Callahan household. My husband particularly likes these during the summer for a quick and easy meal. The kids will love them too.

Ingredients:

  • 1 can crescent rolls
  • 8 slices cheddar cheese
  • 8 hot dogs

Directions:

Unroll croissants and divide into the 8 different triangles. Place on cookie sheet. On each of the triangles add 1/2 a slice of cheddar cheese. Place one hot dog on top of the cheese. Place the other 1/2 of the cheddar cheese slice on top of the hot dog and roll the croissant edges around the hot dog. Place in 350 degree oven for 15 – 18 minutes or until croissants are golden brown.

Freezing Directions:

Let cool and flash freeze by placing cooked hot dog croissants on a cool cookie sheet and placing in freezer for 10 minutes. Place flash frozen hot dog croissants in 4 gallon size freezer bags, 4 in each. To serve: Microwave for 45 seconds – 1.5 minutes, or until heated through.

Servings: 8

we love these as well—we have also used the pillsbury breadsticks and wrapped it around the hotdog.

I’ve made these before, but never thought about freezing them – what a great idea!

as the mom, i think i like these the best in my family… even more than the kids. we call them “hogs in a comforter” like the classic “pigs in a blanket” only bigger! never have thought about freezing them though. great thinking!!

Do the croissants come out soggy when you reheat them? I have never thought about freezeing but not too sure my hubby would appreciate it if it were soggy!

Not really. They aren’t as crisp as they would be when they just come out of the oven but they are good. You also could choose to warm them in the oven instead of the microwave which would help with that issue.

      • Denise says:

I heat in the microwave for about 30 seconds. Then pop in the toaster oven. Comes out as crisp as if I just baked them. Takes 2 minutes at the most.

I taught my roommate’s nephew how to make these when he was 11 or so. He was so thrilled he could cook something that he BEGGED his mom to buy all the ingredients so he could make them for dinner for the family. So they’re good for all those budding cooks who want to help, too!
