IFBC Food Walk: Other
We didn’t just eat at the conference (Day 1, Day 2, Day 3). We arrived before and stayed later so there were many opportunities to try out Seattle eateries. I am fairly certain that you could live your life in Seattle and never exhaust the eating options.
I will say, although I enjoyed each and every meal that we ate, there was one slight “flaw” to me. On the last day as we were wondering the streets looking at restaurant menus, trying to decide what to eat, my husband asked me what sounded good for dinner. My reply? “I am not sure, what I am sure of is I would like to see a menu where I know more than 50% of the ingredients on the list.”
To say Seattle is a gourmet city would be a bit of an understatement to me. Don’t get me wrong, I loved every minute we were there, including the food. I just think my culinary tastes are better suited for the South!
At any rate, here were some of our culinary exploits outside of the conference:
Friday:
We began the morning early. We were on East Coast time remember? So when we were wide awake at 5:45 am we were a little giggly. We got dressed and decided to explore the city, we went down and walked the Bay area and enjoyed the brisk morning. The problem was there was nothing open where we were. We finally happened to this little cafe:
These egg wraps were amazing. I am not sure if it was because I was so hungry or they were just that good!
For lunch we headed to Pike Place Market and as any of you know who have been there, we were not disappointed! I was also practicing using my new lens and getting use to taking pictures on the fly. I did better some places more than others.
These peaches/nectarines were TO. DIE. FOR. They were like candy and were dripping with juice. We had chosen to share one only to go back and purchase another.
We saw the line to Piroshky, Piroshky was out the door and wrapping around the building we decided it must be good. Well, that and the heavenly smell of baking breads and cheese!
This Beef and Cheese Piroshky was one of my favorite foods of the day.
This Cherry and White Chocolate Piroshky was good too.
Sunday:
We didn’t stay for dinner at the conference because we were anxious to try out some eateries and I was interested in food that I recognized the name of.
We found this restaurant after much searching, it was called The Pink Door and there was actually a trapeze artist that performs periodically. We chose to sit on the patio!
This is Ben’s view from the table.
Bruschetta for an appetizer.
Our main course.
Dessert – Peach/Blueberry Crisp. It was good but not nearly as good as we thought it should be considering the peaches we had just had across the street at the market.
Monday:
With a whole day ahead of us to just enjoy and take in the remaining sites on our list, we began at a pastry shop.
Hubby enjoyed a croissant and espresso and I had a blueberry cinnamon roll.
We spent the morning “working” on the site and making some plans for the future. Given that we are both geeks like that it was the perfect way to spend the morning. After all, we wanted to relax a bit while we were away from the kids.
We headed down to Frontier Village for a bit but I eventually talked Ben into heading back up to Pike Place Chinese Cuisine as it had tempted me the day before.
I had a Pineapple Chicken Fried Rice. (Can anyone tell me what the fuzzy brown stuff on my dish was? It looked like pocket lint.) Ben had Chicken with Cashew Nuts and we split an order of Egg Rolls.
We just sat in the park for awhile and enjoyed the sites, sounds and the chance to not have to run around after energetic children. Then we went back and took a short cat nap before heading out to get dinner.
We knew we wanted to head to The Crab Pot for dinner as I have always wanted to eat at a restaurant where you hammer open the seafood on the table! See, not gourmet! LOL. At any rate, why we were killing time on the Pier the Argosy was offing a half price sunset tour so we decided to hit that first. I am SO glad that we did. It was an enjoyable hour and our tour guide was born and raised just 20 miles from our hometown! Small world.
The lighting wasn’t too hot and we only had our cell phones so these are the only pictures that we had.
All in all the weekend was such a wonderful experience all around, but most especially in the food department!
I hope you have enjoyed this week’s walk through IFBC! Don’t forget there is still time to win a piece of my swag (ends 9/11/10).

You totally have me drooling here! It all looks and sounds really, really good! Isn’t it amazing, with all those specialty items and fancy things, that a single PEACH would make it into the mix. It’s awesome how wonderful just a piece of fruit is!! Thanks for sharing with us!
