Oven Cook
These directions are for cooking this recipe to serve immediately and NOT to freeze for later.
- Sift together all purpose flour, salt and soda. Add whole wheat flour and sugar and mix until combined.
- In a separate bowl, mix together buttermilk, milk and oil.
- Add milk mixture to flour mix; mix just until combined. Do not over mix.
- Form dough into a round, flat loaf. Place on a greased baking sheet.
- Bake at 400F oven for 15 minutes.
- Reduce heat to 375F and bake for an additional 25-30 minutes. Remove from oven when golden brown.
- Cool on a wire rack before cutting.

Join the discussiontry replacing the milk and buttermilk with a can of beer. It will rise, add some honey or a tad more sugar if you use dark beer, leave out the sugar if you use a light beer.
Would almond or coconut flour work if avoiding gluten?
Brenda – Great Question! I have never tried it with either. If you experiment please do let us know the results. I don’t have a lot of experience in adapting bread recipes to using almond or coconut. However an AP Gluten Free Flour would probably work.
