  1. We are watching the dregs of our April Menu (done in May) flit away right now. I plan on doing it again once my freezer is empty! Thanks for the shout-out–I hope those enchiladas freeze well!

  2. Also, I just listened to the podcast for the first time–to see what you said about me, of course! It really is very pleasant and I enjoyed listening while I was working. Do you think you could record some books for me to listen to while I work? ;)

  3. Allison says:

Wow, awesome menu this month! I’m glad I waited to start OAMC. I’ll try to do this over the holiday weekend, so we have lots of yummy food in our freezer for the rest of the summer.

  4. STephanie says:

Just looking through some of the menus. They look fantastic. Should the mac and chz recipe read something like ‘add the milk to the flour and stir slowly’ though. As I read the instructions there’s no mention of the flour and only one cup of milk. I haven’t listene to the podcast so maybe it explains the rest.

  5. Amy says:

In the Ground Beef Casserole recipe you call for 48 oz of macaroni. That sounded like a lot, so I checked the original recipe and found the mistake. The original calls for 1.5 cups, so if you quadruple it then that’s 6 cups which is 48 FLUID oz but only about a pound and a half of macaroni.

I’m happy to see the podcast back. I hope you’re doing well.

After reviewing a few sites and thinking through this a little more, you are right. Thanks for pointing this out early on, I will get it changed right away. And I am happy someone actually listens to the podcasts!

  6. Paula says:

Thanks for another great menu!! I appreciate ALL the hard work you do.

Hi, I am new to your blog and the recipes look great. I did do once a month cooking when my eldest was little now she is going to be a mom! My girlfriend got me to check out this blog now I just got to get her movaited to cook up with me! Thanks again. My page doesn’t show the podcast, what did I do wrong?

Glad you have joined us. And yes, you should motivate your friend, or your daughter, to cook with you. As for the podcast, you may need to download Flash Player. If you think that isn’t the problem you can try using another browser. If you still have problems email me through the contact form with the browser you are using.

  8. Jamie says:

Sis and I completed some of the June menus yesterday – can’t wait to have our July OAMC big cooking day on July 25th! :)

  9. Mariam says:

Thank you so much for all you do…this obviously takes a lot of time considering how organized you are in putting this together. I made the monteray jack quesadillas for dinner tonight and my hubby and kids thought they were delicious! I didn’t think my kids would enjoy them ( I left out the onions for them) but when they saw that there was bacon in them, they were very eager to taste!!

    Thanks again!

  10. Libby says:

I did the July menu over multiple days as I had the time…already tried and few and they are yummy! (Especially the quesadillas and the coffee cake!). I want to try the quesadilla idea with other ingredients, too…it was so easy and froze well! The only thing I had a little bit of difficulty on was the corn dogs…not sure how those turned out, but I felt like that was my “experiment” anyway! I love the site -thanks for all your hard work!!

  11. Jane says:

I did a lot of the cooking this weekend, and it was really an undertaking! I am so impressed at how well you orchestrated everything – like a choreographer! I agree with Libby though, that the corn dogs were a little strange – very difficult to get the coating to stay on without most of it sticking to my fingers. I finally put on some gloves and wet my hands to form the corn onto the dogs, and ultimately, after they were baked they had way too much breading on them. Maybe they’ll get better with freezing and heating, but I have my doubts….

  12. I’m starting late this month… but hopefully that won’t be a problem!

  13. Tiffany says:

I just finished the OAMC today…done over a 2 day period. I would have to say this is the best menu yet!!!!! I have to agree about the corn dogs….I got upset and omited them from my menu. Thanks for your hard work in putting this together….love your site!

  14. happyhousewife says:

Could the corndog recipe be more of a cornbread with hot dogs inside? I wonder if you were to grease a pan and stir the chopped up hot dogs into the mixture if it would work. I haven’t made them yet, but I’ll try it and report back in few weeks.

  15. shannon says:

the instructions page says to cook 2 cups of rice for the chicken and rice casserole- but the recipe calls for raw rice? Which is it? we use brown rice and I dont want undone rice so should I cook it to be safe? (then again – I dont want overcooked rice either ! :-) )

    • tricia says:

The original recipe calls for cooked rice BUT when I am building a grocery list and cooking instructions I have to convert it to raw rice. I figured out the raw equivalents so as not to confuse you too much on your cooking day. When reading the instructions you will see that we WILL cook the rice before assembling the dish. A little confusing I know.

      • Cheryl says:

        Hi tricia,
We are looking forward to our cooking day on Saturday. I am still confused, the original recipe says use UNcooked rice. It also says, further down, when preparing to serve, that in one hour the rice should be almost done. So, Don’t cook the rice, right?
        Cheryl

        • tricia says:

The ingredients list calls for UNcooked rice. I put the amount of UNcooked in the recipe so that when you are making it that you don’t accidentally make too much rice. However, the instructions have you cook the rice first before adding to the dish. The overall instructions have you making the rice the night before to save you time. Sorry for the confusion but I am certain there would be confusion either way. If I list the amount of COOKED rice needed then I will get asked how much UNcooked rice yields that amount of cooked right. OY! :)

  16. I love this site! OAMC used to really scare me. I do make freezer meals for the freezer, but not a month’s worth. Well, this week we are eating out of the freezer to save money and clean it out and I love not worrying about dinner every night. I am really considering OAMC now that my eldest is starting school. We are picky at our house though and I don’t think I could actually make all of your recipes in any given month. Ever thought about a giveaway or contest for folks who make a proposed OAMC plan/menu and submit it to you? Just an idea. I do have freezer recipes every Friday on my site! Thanks!

    • tricia says:

Funny you should mention the possibility of having a menu contest. I have. I just know it has to be a GOOD prize, because that is a lot of work! Hopefully I can score some great swag at BlogHer and do just that! Stay tuned. . .

  17. Jane says:

We had the stuffed peppers last night and didn’t like them AT ALL. Maybe I left something out? For those of you who haven’t cooked yet, you may want to use a different stuffing for the peppers…..
The enchiladas tonight were fantastic, though!

  18. Tianna says:

I’m new to your site and exccited about it. However, I am a bit confused by some of the recipes. They’ll say you’ll need 4 pans, but then the instructions don’t say to split it into 4 pans. For example, the Raspberry Coffee Cake says to pour 2/3 of the batter into a baking dish. Do I split 2/3 of the batter into 4 baking dishes? I noticed this on a few recipes.

  19. Elizabeth says:

Just stoppin by and all I can say is wow. Your awesome and so is your site. I will catch up with you soon. @Elizabeth_N

  20. dinah says:

just signed up,it’s now the 27th of july, how soon will your august receipes and shopping list be available? so i can start soon***

  21. Mandy says:

I didn’t see rice listed on the grocery list. I know I need 4 cups for the chicken rice casserole-is there any other that I will need?

  22. Tami says:

Should it be 3 cups of carrots? 2 cups for the soup and 1 cup for the Chicken and Rice?

  23. cheryl says:

Oh My, we did our July OAM cooking day yesterday and it was a very, very long day… it took us about 13.5 hours, quite a bit longer than before. The food looks GREAT though, I have already eaten the raspberry cake and loved it! Thanks for your commitment.

  24. Tami says:

We had the stuffed peppers last night and really enjoyed them!!! Different, but tasty:)

  25. Paula says:

Thanks so much for a great return to OAMC. It has been a few years since I’ve done this because my cooking partner moved but I’m back solo now. I was a little confused by the rice dish instructions and since I’ve had cooked rice pretty much dissolve if cooked in other freezer recipes I just added it uncooked. Hopefully with all the liquid in the recipe the dish will still turn out:) Looking forward to another cooking day already but next time I’m putting the kiddos to work!

I was just wondering what the average cost of buying the groceries here for this month. We are on a budget and I want to make sure that this could even fall wtihin it. thanks

    • tricia says:

For both families the grocery total comes in around 350-400 usually. Give or take. That is for two families so $150-$200 each. That ends up being less than $5 for each entree for four.
