Jumping into Preschool Homeschooling with the Step 2 Fresh Market Kitchen {Giveaway}
If there is one thing that my 3 year old son LOVES to do, it is grocery shopping. He was also super excited when we transitioned to a minivan and frequently asks to go Kroger’ing s his outing of choice. In fact, just this last week when my mother was watching him, he kept begging her to go. I often say, “He is embracing his inner soccer mom.”
The truth of the matter is that he simple loves so many things about being in the kitchen. I suppose when you have a mom with a cooking blog you spend some time in the kitchen getting to know the art of the trade. He not only loves grocery shopping, he loves cooking too. It is a win/win for me. And as we approach our first year of “homeschooling” this year (I use quotes because we are just in preschool now) I have looked for ways to incorporate cooking into our curriculum, both inside and outside the kitchen.
I love teaching him hands on IN the kitchen, but sometimes, that just isn’t feasible. Or safe. So I have been looking for ways to teach him outside the kitchen as well. Several months ago when I began my research I asked YOU which play kitchen I should consider purchasing for him. When I read the comments, it was clear that Step2 was the way I wanted to go. So like any good blogger does, I contacted them. 
After talking awhile about our upcoming homeschool and acknowledging that we had TWO children that were going to be using the kitchen at the same time, we decided that the Fresh Market Kitchen would be the best fit. And I am pleased to report it was a wise decision. My kids absolutely LOVE this kitchen! (And their friends keep asking if they can come over and play.)
I will be completely honest that I thought I could easily assemble this thing by myself one evening when the kids were in bed. I was wrong. It definitely took a drill and a muscled man to get it assembled. But the up side to that is that it is tremendously sturdy and a toy that my kids are not going to easily destroy. I will take that trade-off.
I “picked” this kitchen because not only did it have bubbling, boiling stove top. It had a farm market shopping area as well. I knew that my grocery shopping loving son would be in love with the cash register and selling items. I have not been disappointed. And as you can see, he is learning a lot already.

Awesome giveaway!! I love the OSU wagon on the site’s homepage – my husband is a die-hard Buckeye. This kitchen is amazing though, my daughter would love it for years to come!
My kids would love to play “store” as well as playing “chef”-they’d learn about measuring, mixing, food prep. And things like counting, beginning math ($, measurements, etc.). We’d have so much fun!

We have this exact kitchen and it is a huge hit!! It has kept my little one out of the kitchen when I need her out but she still is helping in her mind. We were just watching the video and my daughter was teaching your son how to use the credit card. Too cute. I know that you will enjoy hours with your litle ones in the kitchen. I would love to know how you are going to teach preschool with this kitchen.

I have a 2 and a 5 year old and a always looking for toys they can play with together. Most things just aren’t age appropriate or have enough room for them to both enjoy at the same time. This kitchen/market looks like it would be the perfect toy for them to amuse themselves with!

We frugally scrubbed up an old pink and purple play kitchen found on the curb for our grandsons. They have enjoyed it, i can only imagine what play fun we could have together in this step 2! The market is always a great place for learning

My son is 2.5 years old and I think this kitchen would be a great way to teach him about how to eat and shop healthy. Carry over the ideas of buying fresh from a “market” and then doing the same at a farmer’s market and in colder weather at the grocery store. Plus he is beginning to count and think this would be great for teaching basic math along with lots of great play!

My 3 little girls would love this. We have a huge plastic tub that is filled with cooking utensils, pots, pans and food but no kitchen so this would be a most welcome addition. It would present the perfect opportunity to teach measurement and money as well as classifying (vegetable, fruit, meat, dairy) and even home ec. skills. It is large enough that all 3 children could play in their own little personal area of the fresh market kitchen.

I love this kitchen!!!! I have been eyeballing this exact one for two years now, since I first saw it at our local Sam’s. I frequently take my kids to a local play room just for them to play with a kitchen similar to this one! what I would do the the step 2 product is introduce healthy cooking fresh fruits and veg. along with meats into the childs lifestyle at a early age which I do already but with pretend food. Teach them everyday with play food how to feed their dolls so, when they older they can feed their children healthy foods. It all starts from in cooperating into the early lifestyle.

We have a few Step 2 products that we love – the water table and slide are in constant use, and the little green motor cycle is pretty popular too, so I cannot imagine that the kitchen would not be amazing as well!

My son was born deaf 2 1/2 years ago. He has been hearing with cochlear implants for just over a year now (yay for medical science!). There is so much language that would come naturally while playing with this toy. I would use this kitchen to help my little guy expand his language.

I have been an e-mail subscriber for years. Love it. My 12 year old grandson has been cooking since he was 5. Two years ago he made 10 pecan pies for Christmas, frm scratch. Last year he roasted the turkey, made the dressing and giblet gravy. And still had time for dessert. Whipped creme for the pies his now 10 year old brother made. I would give this to my niece and nephew for Christmas. My nephew has some disabilities. He goes to 3 different therapies, 2 times each week. It would be good therapy for him to have such a neat toy to entertain and teach him. It would be neat for my sister too since he keeps her busy all day and night. I have a 21 month baby girl and getting ready to have another one any day now. We just got a kids table with 4 chairs and my little girl loves to sit there with her little friends. After my husband saw her doing that, and realized how few toys we have for her, he mentioned how great it would be to have a kitchen next to it where she could play to prepare and serve food. We actually went looking for kitchens yesterday and Step2 was one of our favorites. I would use this with my 6 kids, ages 5 to 9, who all love to cook! They all help in the kitchen but I only have one helper each day so this would provide the others with plenty of time to “practice”.

Whenever I cook, the kids cook with their stuff! This kitchen would be a great learning tool and opportunity for them to grow.
I’d use this with my two boys to teach them the cycle of food…that it doesn’t just appear on the table for them, it has to be grown, purchased, prepared and then served.

My daughter would absolutely love this kitchen. She is always pretending to cook us things and brings them over for us to have “a bite” and taste test. She also loves to pretend shop and this kitchen would provide her a more real experience when imagining both!
We love the step2 Naturally playful collection! The teeter totter, slide and sandbox have offered and and hours of imaginative play for my three boys! We would love to add the fresh market kitchen! I absolutely love almost all of the Step2 porducts. We’ve had many and have loved every one…the train table, multiple toy boxes, Kangaroo Climber, Dream Kitchen, etc, etc! This new kitchen looks SO adorable, I wish they would have had it years ago! I also completed the survey!

I love all the Step 2 products but my favorite one has to be their Sand and Water activity table with the umbrella. My kids will spend hours outside playing with it.
I have done all the steps required as well as I follow OAMM on Facebook and now Twitter as well. I have a 4 (almost 5) year old and a 9 month old. My oldest has wanted a kitchen for so long now and I KNOW he would LOVE this one. We used to have a Step2 easel thing and loved it while we had it but it just didnt make it in the 2 moves we have done since we had it. I have yet to do any of the OAMM menus or anything like that because I think a month is a bit too daunting for me so I think that the mini menus mentioned in the survey would be a GREAT jumping off point for me and my family. I usually do my shopping by the week or sometimes bi-weekly I typically like trying new recipes but only when it uses things that I am accustomed to. (I am pretty picky, lol) I hope that we are able to win but if not I wish EVERYONE the best of luck!!!!

We were planning on getting a kitchen for our son for Christmas and this would be perfect. I think a play kitchen is perfect for teaching children about their fruits and veggies as well as colors and counting.

My kids would absolutely LOVE this play kitchen! My 4 year old daughter loves watching The Food Network and pretends to make what they’re making. She also comes up with her own “recipes”, like Peanut Butter and Jelly Soup (which is a dessert soup, by the way…) and Tomato Chicken. Her 2 year old brother loves to mimic what she does and also act the taste tester for her creations. This would be a perfect Christmas gift for them!

My daughter is a year and half old and loves to “help” Mommy cook in the kitchen. I know she would love this kitchen! Also it will keep her busy cooking while I cook the real food!
As weird as it sounds, our favorite step2 product has been the basic picnic table – our son loves to sit on it, stand on it, write on it, etc. and he simply can’t break it! it even disassembles and reassembles well – we recently moved across the country and had no issues with moving it.

We have lots of fun with Step 2 outside using one of their climbers and a sand and water table. I would love to bring the fun indoors this winter. When my son was young we purchased a very small “kitchenette” for him not knowing if he’d enjoy a kitchen being a boy. Boy were we wrong! Now that we have a daughter too the small “kitchenette” needs an upgrade so every one can enjoy kitchen play time!
When I’m in the kitchen cooking my 20 month old daughter walks in and says “mama you cook?” I tell her yes and then she looks at me with a big smile and says “I cook too!”

It has been quite a while since I have had to buy any Step 2 products, but I want you to know, that when the Grand Babies start to come over to G-Ma’s house, we still have the products we got for when our kids were little.

I laugh because I have my own little food blog for friends and family and my son also LOVES grocery shopping and baking. I let him help prep for cooking but keep him away from the stove. He is 3 and how shall we say…. high spirited. Whenever we go to the kid’s Museum he spends a lot of time with the cash register so he would LOVE that. I also wanted to start a mini mart at home with paper money and pictures to help him learn how to combine amounts such as three pennies and a dollar, etc.
I have 3 little boys and a little girl on the way. I’m hoping this would get them to play grocery store someplace other than my pantry! (They can already stock shelves because they shop in my pantry so often!) This would also be great to keep them out from under foot when what I’m doing in the kitchen is too dangerous for them to help with (They LOVE to help!)

Oh goodness!! How fun! My 3 year old would LOOOOVE this! After our 2nd daughter was born, a family in our town had a fire, and we were just sure we were done having children, so we gave away all our small kid toys…clothes… etc. To our surprise.. 3 years later we were expecting our 3rd little girl. I know kids don’t need a lot of toys to have fun and this last little one of mine is turning 3 and has a fabulous imagination and I KNOW she would love love love this fabulous kitchen. My favorite Step 2 product is the Step2 Naturally Playful Sand and Water Activity Center. Our boys, ages 2 & 4 just love it and can play at the activity table for hours!!
I have been blessed with 3 boys and so that is who I will be teaching to cook!
I’m already working with my oldest 2 in the kitchen to learn basic skills and they love to play restaurant with our dishes/play food. This kitchen would be a blast for them. We’ve also enjoyed Step 2 products, especially the water tables.

I love your blog! My oldest daughter is 4, and my youngest is 5 months. I plan on homeschooling them both. This kitchen would be an amazing asset to our household! Like you, I find that sometimes when I am cooking, it is not safe for my daughter to be in the kitchen with me, although she loves to help cook. I would put this play kitchen/market in our kitchen to allow for creative play and learning about food at the same time!

OH My gosh!!! My kids are just now into the pretend phase. I have two 2.5 munchkins, a set of boy/girl twins and a 3 month old. We are also “homeschooling” learning the alphabet and our numbers. We could easily incorporate numbers, letters, imagination skills obviously, the list really is endless. But I can also teach them all about the kitchen and what each things does and the rules of being in a kitchen. I can’t wait for them to make their first real cupcakes and spaghetti dinner and what a wonderful way to teach them.

I love the Ohio State wagon and my 2 and 4 year olds would love playing with this kitchen.
I am also a member and receive emails from OOMM. My 4 year old would love the play kitchen, it is one of her favorite play areas at school. I have several step2 products, like the art desk, complete with light and toy box. They are so well made and have a lot of storage space. My daughter also loves to cook with me and has her own apron and hat, which she recently made at school. I love teaching her how to cook, just like my grandmother taught me. Its like my grandmother is there with us watching over us.
I have 3 kids ages almost 5, 2 and 7 months. They currently have a very small pay kitchen from freecycle that is very beat up and several parts missing. I’d love to surprise them with this especially since it’s big enough for all 3 of them to eventually play with it (7 month old just pulling up to stand). They love playing kitchen and this would be perfect. We prefer to have toys that allow them to be creative and use their imagination and this is great for that

We have three kids. 1-6-9. Today was their last day in Public School. We are pulling them out and home schooling them. The kitchen would be a great project for our 1 year old and the 6 year old. They both love to play/pretend in the kitchen. I like so many other moms agree that it isn’t safe for them to be cooking along side on many occasions but this would be perfect to let them “help” in their own little ways. My 6 year old is forever mixing this in a bowl to create spectacular projects. This would be great.

My 2 yr old son would love this…we got rid of his big sister’s kitchen years ago and were debating on getting him one. This kitchen is so cool!
I really love everything Step2! We have several of their products! One I am dying to get (besides a kitchen) would have to be one of the swingsets!

Our favorite Step2 product is the rugged outdoor wagon. I would love to win this for my daughter, whose birthday is today! She just turned 4 and loves to pretend cook and shop. My 6 year old and 4 year old are always playing, but we do not have a kitchen set. We homeschool our 4 children and love it! This would be such a great addition to our preschool lessons.

Our current favorite Step 2 product is the slide my mother in law bought for my daughter (who’s now almost 4!) when she was 1 yr old.. Both her and my son figured it out at 13 mos, and is a LIFESAVER to wear them out inside during the winter
And it is also a nice addition outside when it’s warm out 
This kitchen looks like it would quickly replace our slide for favorite toy though, and my daughter would LOVE to cook for her little brother, and new little one on the way! With 2 boys to feed, if I can get any help in the kitchen from my daughter it’d be great haha

My 18 month old has the smaller version of this at grandmas house. But that’s 2 states away. She would absolutely love this!! She loves making the pan sizzle!
I have 4 kids . . . youngest are 2 y/o twins (this would be perfect for them) the oldest is going to be 6 soon . . . I’m sure he would play with it, too! I would love to have this!!!!

I would use this for my twin 4yr old girls. The toys they play with the most are their play foods, but they don’t have a kitchen, and one that would be big enough for both of them to play with is too expensive for us, so I’m hoping we’ll win this, and then they will be SO happy!

Thanks for offering this awesome giveaway! My 4th child will be born early next year, and this kitchen would be a great gift for the older three so that they don’t feel forgotten during this busy time. I also see that it has a cash register, which would be a fun way to introduce currency and basic math with my Kindergartener (we are homeschooling, too).

This would be great for teaching my little ones. Honestly never thought of its value in the classroom until now. Would also give them a safe place to “cook” when they cant cook with momma.

I would use this kitchen set to hopefully help my toddler learn that it’s to have a variety of veggies in our family’s kitchen not just because of the colors but the yummy tastes.
