Mango-Peach Puree (6 months+)

The following is a guest post from Jessica of Vanderbilt Wife. She will be filling in here every now and again until we can get a regular baby/toddler food writer on board. I am so grateful to have some life being breathed into this section of the site!
My son is almost 7 months old, and he finally seems to be getting the hang of baby food. And by that, I mean that he wails if he ever sees someone eating and he’s not! I’m learning very quickly what it’s like to have a boy, and already shuddering at the thought of my future grocery bill.

I picked up some beautiful peaches from the farmer’s market last weekend and wanted to incorporate them into a meal for David. His first real “food fit” was after my husband let him suck on a peach—and then had the nerve to take it away! The kid knows good stuff when he sees it.

I didn’t peel my peach, but you can if you’re more comfortable with it that way. Not peeling it leaves pretty little flecks in the puree. I use an immersion blender to do my purees, but you could use a regular blender, baby food mill, or the adorable Baby Bullet.

Ingredients:

  • 1 mango, pitted, peeled, and cut into chunks
  • 1 peach, pit removed, diced
  • 1-2 T water, breastmilk, or formula
  • 1-2 T baby cereal (I like Plum Organics MultiGrain)

Directions:

Process mango, peach, and liquid using desired blending method. (Just use enough liquid to make the mixture loose enough to blend well.) Add cereal to thicken to your child’s preference; for younger babies, you may not need to thicken at all.

Freezing Directions:

Pour into an ice cube tray and freeze. When cubes are frozen, empty into a freezer bag and use as needed. To defrost, microwave cubes at 50% power for 1 minute. (Make sure to test to make sure it is not too hot!) Alternately, defrost in the fridge and serve cold.

My daughter is significantly older (2.5 years), but I am still in the habit of making vegetable purees… only now, I add them to all of our meals (from oatmeal and cookies to taco meat). I freeze them in silicone muffin pans and defrost overnight in the fridge.
Your recipe sounds tasty! I may have to give fruit puree a try again!

I do that for my toddler, too! She’s also 2.5 but extremely picky. I do a lot of hiding in muffins and pancakes. This would be great in pancakes!
