Planning an Oscar Party with Ro*Tel and Velveeta Famous Queso Dip
Just because the Grammys and Oscars are high class events, dripping with diamonds and champagne, doesn’t mean that you have to break your budget to host a festive celebration!
With a few vintage and unique serving platters, a fun assortment of paper goods, a healthy dose of creativity, and Ro*Tel Queso dip, I was able to pull together an fairly inexpensive yet celebrity worthy celebration.
Popcorn can be a simple and inexpensive, yet fun treat for your celebration. With a little creativity, I made little popcorn boxes, and glued on decorative labels to transform this movie watching snack into something with a little more class. In the spirit of the Oscars, I also printed movie posters of my favorite picks, and slipped them into silver frames that were already in use around the house.
In creating the perfect set up for celebratory beverages, I decided on using my own glassware instead of spending money on plastic cups. As you notice, I don’t have stemware that matches, but the variety of the vintage pieces mixed with different shapes and sizes of the odds and ends set the stage for a more relaxed atomsphere. I also printed labels for the wine bottles that read “Oscars 2013″.
For a non alcoholic beverage option, I mixed together a simple peach flavored punch. Again, serving them in mismatched juice glasses. And do you notice the festive silver accent decorations scattered about? I raided my Christmas decorations for those! Thinking outside the box in regards to my decorating and serveware choices I was able to spend alot less money that anticipated.
For me, the perfect party food for any occasion is Ro*Tel Queso and tortilla chips. The creamy, cheesy taste of Velveeta paired with fresh and spicy Ro*tel for a delicious Queso dip, is perfect for any occasion. Adding in a few of your own ingredients (I like ground beef, onions and cilantro) will give a signature taste to the well known dip. In addition, simple sides of your favorite fresh fruit and finger foods and of course popcorn round out the table for a party worthy of any Grammys or Oscar celebration.
So alert the papparazzi, roll out the red carpet, and let the party begin!
Ro*Tel and Velveeta Famous Queso Dip

Ingredients:
- 10 ounces Ro*Tel Original Diced Tomatoes and Green Chiles, undrained
- 16 ounces Velveeta pasturized cheese product, cut into cubes
- 0.75 pounds ground beef, browned
- 0.25 cups onion, chopped
- 0.25 cups cilantro, chopped
Directions:
Combine Ro*tel, Velveeta cheese, ground beef, onion and cilantro in a microwave safe bowl. Microwave on 50% power for 5 minutes, stirring after each minute. Top with additional cilantro if desired. Serve with tortilla chips.
Freezing Directions:
Not recommended.

How did you make the popcorn boxes? We had a baby shower yesterday with the theme “She’s about to pop!” and we used flavored popcorn for one of the treats. We put them in decorative paper cones. I am curious, though, how you made the popcorn boxes pictured in this post.
