Poll: What is Your Cooking Skill Level?
Print
Being at the the International Food Blogging Conference and recipe writing it came to me that I don’t really know your cooking skill level. There are several ways that I could have categorized these levels but I wanted to try to make it as simple as possible for you to answer. Here is what I came up with:
- No Skill Level - You only step into the kitchen when you have to and when you do it usually involves a box/freezer meal.
- Low Skill Level – You step into the kitchen occasionally but need detailed, step-by-step instructions and clear cut pictures in order to be able to cook a meal or a recipe. You stick pretty close to the recipe at hand.
- Medium Skill Level – You step into the kitchen frequently and feel fairly comfortable with most recipes and basic kitchen functions. You use recipes but can add or subtract based on your own tastes most of the time. You can do some non-basic food preparation.
- High Skill Level – You are in the kitchen often and can do most anything in the kitchen. You may use recipes but also feel comfortable creating your own, using a recipe as just a basis or coming up with unique variations. You can do some advanced techniques and understand most written instructions for completing menus.
- Very High Skill Level – You have some level of training or schooling in culinary arts or cooking. You are comfortable with most any recipes or food preparation.
I want to know – where do you consider yourself to be? Pick the category that BEST describes you (cast your vote in the right side bar). This will help me to get a sense of how best to write and present recipes and tutorials to you.

Medium Skill Level with glimpses of High at times. That’s when I’m not in school or teaching:)
Based on your info I am high skill level. I have a good amount of recipes some I follow others are the inspiration for my creativity in the kitchen. The garden frees me up in the summer and we all look forward to summer menus. This year it can continue since I have dehydrated many things. Time will tell how well it goes.
