Sargento Natural Cheese Taste Test
Of the two of us, my husband is the wine and cheese connoisseur. And lately, he has been the one that has been picking our cheeses. I have actually, aside for a conference or two, not officially ever been to a cheese tasting. Have you? I have always been interested in going to one but have never really been sure what they are all about.
Now this isn’t a gourmet cheese tasting, but Sargento challenged a few bloggers to have some conversations around cheese and I found it interesting to learn what one is to look for in a cheese. Here is what Sargento suggests:
- Look at the cheeses first. It should be understated and non-glossy appearance. The more processing the more the shine.
- Touch the cheese to feel its texture. It should not bend without breaking if it is natural cheese.
- Smell the cheese. You know, like a glass of wine. How does it smell? Do you want to just eat it right up. Or is it odorless?
- Taste the cheese. Natural cheese have an array of flavors, from savory to fruity to spicy to sharp. Processed cheeses usually predominantly taste salty.
Sargento Natural Cheese is REAL cheese, not processed. When you try it, it doesn’t have a glossy shine, it breaks when bent, smells amazing and tastes great. It is sliced straight from the block and packaged for you! Taste the difference for yourself.
In order to level the playing field a bit I had the kids help me make cheese cut outs of the two types of cheeses, Sargento Natural Cheddar Cheese slices and an unnamed processed cheese. We then had some of our favorite mom/kiddo friends and did a bit of taste testing. We definitely preferred the cheddar cheese slices and I was actually surprised to find that even my toddlers were able to pick out (without prompting) the cheddar cheese slices. And by picked out, I mean, the ones they ate. :)
