Spills Happen!

Lest you think that we are perfect here at Once A Month Mom, enter exhibit A and exhibit B. We do bulk cooking but that doesn’t mean we always do it well! The latest “obstacle” I ran into came when I went to get Cortney’s portion of the food from the freezer. This is what I found! Oops!

Apparently something spilled! My first guess is that the some of the shepherd’s pie leaked out when we stacked entrees on top of one another. However, on closer review it turns out that did happen, but there was also a leak in one or more of the Tortellini Spinach Soups. As I was “fixing” the problem my husband says, “Wouldn’t it be smart to double bag those?” Needless to say he didn’t get the most pleasant of looks from me!

img_0653.jpg So I needed to to clean the freezer out, but we just did our OAMC day which means that my freezer is FULL! It really does need a good defrost but there is no way I could do it right now! So, I grabbed a bowl of hot water, a wash rag, a couple paper towels, my step stool (I am short) and a spatula. Yes, I said my spatula! I was thinking that those bits of frozen “juice” might be difficult to get up.

It didn’t take me long really. I just used the hot wet wash cloth to wipe away the food particles in the bottom of the freezer. I then quickly wiped away the water and remaining mess with dry paper towels before it had a chance to freeze again. I am happy to report that I only had to use the spatula once for a particularly stubborn chunk of chicken broth!

I even managed to organize a little while I was in there (more on that later).

So do you have any messy adventures from a previous months OAMC experience that you would like to share? Or some quick and easy freezer clean-up tips?

I just discovered your site recently but I’m happy to hear you guys are not perfect. I automatically thought that since you prepare meals ahead of time you mustn’t make messes LOL silly but true!

The first month, the enchiladas were so meaty that the sauce went everywhere. I’ve learned that a simple piece of cardboard worked wonders!
