Summer 2010 OAMM Menu
I am SO excited about this menu. For so many reasons. The summer off, great summer grilling recipes, recipes from yours truly, and a menu that doesn’t use the oven! Woot!
1. You may have noticed instead of it being the May 2010 menu it is the Summer 2010 Menu. That is not a typo, this menu will be the featured Menu until August 1st, 2010. I learned after last summer that a lot of people forgo freezer cooking during the summer for many reasons: vacations, less time, more mouths to feed, not wanting to turn the oven on, etc. In addition, the sales items throughout the summer are virtually the same (listen to the podcast to hear what they are), the produce is the only thing that changes a bit. And I figure if you DO want to do once a month cooking more than once this summer you can go back and use the menus from May, June or July of last year, they are great menu too!
Don’t worry, I will still be around this summer posting like crazy, bringing you new recipes and talking about everything from cooking to eating out to vacation to exciting adventures. I just will be free to try out some new things and get prepared for the great fall menus. And of course, to enjoy my two kiddos and husband.
2 & 3. I have been whipping up some great recipes the last few weeks and I am having so much fun. I can’t wait to try new ones out this summer as well! I’m having so much fun experimenting. Watch out Martha Stewart (yea, not really)!
4. Yes, you read that right. This menu DOES not require to turn your oven on during your cooking day! Can I hear an AMEN! That is one of the single greatest drawbacks of doing oamc during the summer. Well, not with this menu. This is BY FAR the easiest to put together menu I have ever created. There is little to no cooking involved at all. In addition, there are very few recipes that use your oven when you cook. Most of them can be grilled or done in the slow cooker. That should help save on the cooling bills!
Oh, and one more thing. I know there are several recipes that contain bleu cheese on this menu. I also know that people either love bleu cheese or hate it. If your family falls into the “hate it” category just substitute shredded Mozzarella cheese instead. They will taste just as great. Also, if your family likes spicy feel free to up the amounts of buffalo sauce (or decrease for more mild flavor).
I hope you enjoy these meals as much as our early readers/cooks have. If you are new and not sure how to get started, read here. For frequently asked questions visit here. What do you think of Summer 2010’s menu?
If you are feeling abundantly blessed and generous feel free to donate. :) But don’t feel guilty if you aren’t able. And don’t forget you can always go back and use May 2009, June 2009 or July 2009‘s menus if you are looking for something different!

This menu looks amazing!! And I’m super excited about not having to use the oven!! Can’t wait to cook!
This will me my first attempt at OAMC you have made it seem plausable, so I’m going to suck it up and give it a try and just keep picturing an early quick meal with my family with just enough time to get back outside and enjoy the beautiful weather. Ill be back to let you know how it all goes. What a wonderful thing you all have put together here. Thank you.
Oh wowzers! This looks SO good!
Those tomato basil hamburgers sound amazing! My kiddo is on an “Italian” tasting kick these days so anything to help that along! ;) Thanks for the great selection of recipes!!
As much as I will miss seeing a new menu each month over the summer, I love the idea of having several recipes that are grillable. Last summer’s menus were great, but I remember feeling torn between heating up the oven for an OAMM dish and grilling up a non-OAMM item. Now I won’t have to choose!
I am finally going to try this- I like the prep and cook later idea. When is everyone’s cooking day?
So glad you are going to try it! I’m not sure, hopefully people will respond to when they are cooking. I am thinking about doing it mid month to help out a friend and prep things for vacation. I will definitely keep you posted. What about everyone else?
So excited! Melissa and I are cooking on May 23rd:)
Yay!

This looks really good!
This will be my first attempt at OAMC. I am so excited….The menu looks fabulous!! One question about the printable recipe cards…Do you print this on special recipe card paper?? Just found your website and you do a great job! Thank you.
lol. Not sure if you question was meant to be funny but it struck me that way. And no, I just use plain old white paper or even the back of scrap paper. :) The recipe cards get pretty dirty when we are cooking!
I wondered the same thing, not to be funny, but if there was a way to print them on the small size recipe cards.
Not really. It is a google doc.
We had our third meal tonight from the Summer Menu, and WOW! I don’t even know which meal was my favorite, they were all fabulous–even my 4 year old has agreed. Thank You! Thank You! Thank You!
Awesome! So glad to hear that!
Hello – I just stumbled across your website (recommended by a comment via another site) and am so glad I did. We’re expecting baby 2.0 this summer and I can barely get dinner on the table with a two year old. I was thinking batch cooking might be the way to do but hadn’t found any solid resources yet. Looking forward to learning more.
Wow! Your menu plans are very nicely done :) I thought my readers might enjoy your recipes so I wanted to let you know I linked to you on my blog. Great site!
This was my first time attempting OAMC. My cook day was on Friday. I did it by myself and it took about 5 hrs. Something that I wished I would have done beforehand; was cook the meat. Everything went pretty smoothly; granted I am 6 months pregnant, by end of day my feet were killing me. I would definetely recommend getting someone to watch the kids. I have a 17 month old and I dont know how I would have done it if she would have been there. So far we have eaten the Stuffed Bleu Cheese Chicken; and loved it. Crossing my fingers that my picky eater (husband) will like some of the other things :)
Holy cow! 5 hours?! It took my aunt and I a total of 15 hours over two days to complete everything. I figured it was because we were beginners, but I feel like we prepared pretty well. How did you do it?
My friend and I did this today, we left out the fruit burritos, cinnamon rolls, chicken salad and chicken/pesto roll ups, and the tomato/caper pasta sauce (which sounded amazing but would have cost $20-$30 for the tomatoes alone). And added 3 more dinner recipes instead. I started the soup this morning and also cooked the bacon and ground beef then. It took us about 4.5 hours including cleanup, and I’m 35 weeks pregnant so I don’t move very fast. So far we’ve tried the Summer Harvest Soup (oh my gosh YUM) and the frozen fruit salads (which I am demolishing all by myself, the kids aren’t going to get any at this rate).
One thing I noticed is that the buffalo chicken breast recipe calls for 12 cups of chicken, I assumed that meant 12-16 chicken breasts.
Thank you so much, this was an awesome menu, and I’m very excited to try the rest of our meals!

In terms of organizing and pre-planning, my sis-in-law lives life by the motto “Que sera sera”, so when she first saw your website, she said “I didn’t know people like this existed!!” But it was her idea to try this and we did the summer menu together yesterday. Whoever did this project in 5-ish hours is my new hero, because it took us 12 hrs and we didn’t even get to two of the dinners because it was so late in the day. Maybe the other more speedy ladies did the prep work (veggie chopping, etc) the day before??? That’s what we’ll do next time. Regardless, we had a great time. I too would recommend making other arrangements for the kids, as there are a multitude of interruptions with any age of children. We were sometimes confused by some discrepancies between the amounts or wordage of ingredients on the grocery list and the recipe cards, but we figured things out and had so much fun in the process! We’re planning to do this again next month! Thanks!
haven’t made the whole menu as I guess I was turned off by the idea of repeating throughout the summer..I like new stuff always..but I did try out a double batch of the cinnamon rolls last night and brought them into work (I get up at 3 a.m. so generally would not think about baking from scratch then)…they were raved about all day..definitely the easiest best rolls I’ve made..and let’s just say I’m well into middle aged and have tried a lot of recipes….I will be making multiple batches of these and freezing..and thought they would make a great gift for neighbors and friends..just make up and let them refrigerator and bake as they desire…
I just found your site this week & have tried 4 of the recipes so far. I have loved them all and plan on making more of them. I love your site & concepts so much that I blogged about them yesterday. Thanks so much for your time & efforts!
Welcome! I’m so glad you’re enjoying the resource. I’ll head over and check out your post! Thanks.

I have tried the Tangy Marinated Steak (used strips and no wine), Frozen Fruit Cups (used slced frozen strawberries instead of raspberries), Italian Pinwheels, Black Bean Mango Chicken Salad, and Pesto Chicken Wraps (made homemade pesto). I cut each recipe in 1/2 and made each one for our dinners last week. Not big on freezing meals yet to eat. Trying to warm up to the idea. EVERY recipe was FABULOUS. As a former caterer, I would of put each recipe on my menu for my clients. Great selection and I have already put them into my recipe files and shared.
Thanks so much for the menu compliments! And I hope we can help you warm up to freezer cooking! ;)

Everything we made and have eaten so far from this menu was delicious. However, we have a lot of leftover diced chicken (8 cups at least) and beef and potato wrap filling (half a gallon freezer bag). Any suggestions as to what I can do with it all??
I have recently found your site and am excited to try some of your techniques and recipes.
Could you please darken your links color on your site though? The really lite blue is very hard to see on the white, and I don’t want to miss any great info! Thanks for putting together such a thorough resource!
We did this menu for our first OAMC and it went great! We loved the burgers! We loved the wraps! The fruit recipes turned out so well and I can hardly wait for August’s menu to be posted! We already have our date set!
I am attempting this tomorrow…ALONE! I’ve halved all the recipes I intend on cooking. I am leaving most of the breakfast ones out just because I don’t think my husband would like them…although I do plan to make the cinnamon rolls one Saturday! Thanks so much for all your hard work in putting this together for us!!
I’m back and not only survived but had a great time cooking! (See comment above) I definitely recommend cutting up vegetables the day before!!! I did and it saved me SOOOO much time and only took about an hour to do. I didn’t cook any of the meat ahead of time but will try to do that next time. I ended up looking back at April’s menu and made the strawberry bread and pineapple muffins…they are delicious!!! I taste tested a few things as I cooked and OMG sooooo good!!! I didn’t really think I’d care for the mango chicken salad but decided to go for it since another reviewer said it was good and boy was I wrong…I ate a little with some tortilla chips! VERY good! I have enough dinners for at least 3 weeks and didn’t even cook everything on the menu!! I am thrilled to have found your website and thanks again so much!!!!
That Mango Chicken Salad is downright surprising! Thanks for sharing your story though. So glad you did it!
I see 6 C of onions in the pasta sauce but don’t see it on the grocery list. Is that yellow onions and is it supposed to be there? Thanks for all you do! The menus looks great!!
It should be worked into the Yellow Onions total.
A neighbor and I did the whole summer menu on Thurs and it took us 9hrs plus we each took home a recipe to finish. Lots of work but LOTS of yummy looking food too! My boys love the Fruit Cups and Breakfast Burritos…can’t wait to have my hubby try them on the way out the door as he doesn’t usually eat breakfast. Excited to see how the dinners taste. Has anyone else had problems with frost in your containers? I tried to get all the air out but mine seemed to frost right up. Thanks!
I am so excited to try this. All the information you provided FREE is AMAZING. Thank you so much for helping this seem doable.
