Getting Started: Once a Month Cooking with Food Stamps

There was a time in the past, when I was a single mom, struggling to raise and to feed my three young boys ages 1-6.  As most moms, I wanted to give my children the healthiest options possible for their growing little bodies.  And before I was on food assistance, that was a very daunting [...]

Chili Cornbread Bake

My family loves chili, and we often eat cornbread with it, so one day I thought, why not combine the two? This Cornbread Chili Bake combines the flavors, and made the meal much less messy than a bowl of chili was for my toddlers.

Harvest Pancakes

This family-favorite features familiar fall spices and make me long for a cool, crisp Saturday morning in which we eat a big breakfast before heading out to rake (and of course jump in!) leaves.

Mama’s Meatballs and Gravy

There is nothing really secret or gourmet about this meaty casserole, it’s just an inexpensive, simple, comfort meal that’s continued to fill bellies for four generations.

Chicken Stuffing Bake

It’s been cool and rainy, the leaves are just starting to turn, I have a gingerbread candle burning, and a bushel of apples ready to be peeled. There’s nothing more I could want to get ready for my favorite season except maybe a helping of this hearty Chicken Stuffing Bake.

Chicken Enchilada Lasagna

Served with warm black beans, tortilla chips, and plenty of salsa, my picky five-year-old claimed this creamy enchilada dish was the BEST.THING.EVER.

Chicken Burritos

A simple “method” for creating freezer burritos to encourage you to get creative include ingredients your own family loves.

Cinco de Mayo is a wonderful opportunity to gather around your table and celebrate the cultures that make up this wonderful country of ours! To help you celebrate we’ve put together a few of our favorite recipes for you to enjoy!

Fire Roasted Vegetable Pasta

When I lived in or visited Kansas City, my mom and I used to frequent a restaurant in the Plaza called Canyon Cafe. Back then, there were not a lot of vegetarian options in nice restaurants, or fast food, or anywhere really. But this place had the best vegetarian pasta ever. And, bonus, a delicious [...]

A Sunny Saturday at the Farmer’s Market

Happy Earth Day! What better way to celebrate then to head out to your local farmer’s market. It’s early in the season still, but we found some great things at our farmer’s market last weekend! Come find out what we bought and plan your next trip!

Poll: Did you OAMM this summer?

My July cooking story. . .

After a several month hiatus from cooking the menus myself, I got back in the saddle. Come see how Amy in OHio and I did cooking up a “mini” version of the July menu. Complete with a OAMM vlogging debute.

My NEW cooking shoes!

I found a new pair of shoes that I love to wear in the kitchen. They are fairly inexpensive and they keep you smiling while you are cooking. Okay, maybe that is a stretch, but I really do LOVE them more than my comfy tennis shoes!
