2009 Winner from Columbus, Ohio

You may remember back to last year when I told you about the 2009 Kroger Reusable Bag Contest. Well, they are doing it again this year. I was excited that at a recent Kroger event I attended I got one of the 2009 Grand Prize Winning Bags. Isn’t it cute? Don’t you wish you were the one that designed it? I do.

I liked the one I did last year but I used the OAMM logo so I couldn’t officially enter it in the contest. I designed one this year and didn’t use the logo. (Too bad, I can’t find my design so you can link to it. You can imagine that it was mind blowing though, right?)

You can also design your own for the chance for your bag to be chosen for the contest. There are great prizes up for grab:

The top 10 designs will be chosen by an expert panel and the grand prize winner will receive $1,000 and will have their bag design sold in stores. Four finalists will receive $250 Kroger gift cards and five runners-up will receive $100 Kroger gift cards. Every Shopper’s Card holder who submits a design will receive a credit for a free reusable shopping bag.

Who couldn’t use a $250 or $1,000 gift card to Kroger? If you have a lot of friends who can vote you are in business! You will get a coupon for a free reusable bag at Kroger just for entering. And even if you don’t care about the contest, you can at least purchase your own bag design through Cafe Press this year. How cool is that?

My "loot" from Krogers Mega Event this week!

I had some time this week, and some interest, to put together some scenarios for Kroger’s Mega Event. It is the first week in many that the items on the Mega Event were of interest/value to me. And considering that I will be having a baby in a few short weeks, I figured it best to stock my pantry anyway.

I do not have the time to detail out for you everything that I bought, the price, and the coupons used. However, I will tell you that my total before Kroger card savings, mega event savings and coupons was $200.24. After all the discounts my bill was $75.54! That was a savings of over $124!!! I’ll take it!

Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup Ice Cream Cake

Ingredients:

• .5 Gallon Chocolate Passion Kroger Deluxe Ice Cream
• .5 jar peanut butter
• 12 oz Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups
• 1 cup Oreo Cookie Crumbs
• 3 Tablespoons Sugar
• 1/4 cup butter, melted

Directions:

1. If using Oreo’s instead of the pre-boxed Oreo cookie crumbs, blend Oreo’s in food processor. Mix in 3 Tablespoons sugar and 1/4 cup of butter until incorporated.
2. Press Oreo crumbs into the bottom of a 9-inch springform pan.
3. Bake 5-10 minutes.
4. Allow to thoroughly cool.
5. Using partially thawed ice cream, scoop half of the half gallon ice cream onto the crust and smooth out with a spoon. Place in freezer to harden 15-20 minutes.
6. Remove from freezer when ice cream is mostly frozen and add the peanut butter to the top. Smooth out. (If your peanut butter is thick you might benefit from microwaving it for a few seconds.
7. Dice up half of the Reese’s cups. Layer them on top of the peanut butter.
8. Place the second half of the half gallon ice cream over the peanut butter and Reese’s cup layer. Smooth it out with a spoon.
9. Add remaining Reese’s Cups to top of ice cream. I kept mine whole. If you would like you could chop them and scatter them as well.
10. Place in freezer 2-3 hours or until firm. Remove outer edge of springform pan and serve.

Servings: 8-12

Kroger has a promotion going on right now on their site that you just might want to take a look at. You simply go over to their site and “spin the wheel” for a chance to win prizes, including free groceries. You can spin once each day for a chance to win for the next 28 days (through September 11th). I have set a little alarm on my computer to remind me to head over there each and every day. It takes me all of 30 seconds and you know I LOVE some free stuff.
