The Final February Grocery Marathon!

So I did my whirlwind last days grocery shopping for the items that were left on my list. It was almost as tiring as when I buy the whole thing in just one day! BUT, I do know that i got some great deals throughout this month, so no complaints here. I loaded my cooler in the trunk of the car and headed out for the evening. Here is what my shopping trip looked like:

First Stop – Dollar Tree

I like to start here because I don’t buy anything perishable. I get all of my baking pans as they are super cheap comparatively. That is, unless you are using Ziploc bags for your entrees. I also bought a cooling rack. There are two cooling racks in the package and they work really well for helping you stack entrees on top of each other before they have frozen (you know, so all of the goo doesn’t leak out all over your freezer)! You can also use pieces of cardboard. I sometimes cut up an old box for using on my cooking BIG DAY.

  • 10 packages of 8 x 8 pans (2 each) = $10
  • 2 packages of Deep Dish Round Pans (3 each) = $2
  • 1 cooling rack (2 each) = $1 (I actually have several of these at home also)
  • Total = $13

Second Stop – Aldi

I start at Aldi’s because I have the best prices everywhere else already indicated on my list. I know what is a good deal there. That, and they don’t carry everything so I need to fill in the other items at the major grocers.

  • $.99 Tortillas – 6 bags of 10 – $5.94
  • $5.69 Walnuts (really only need 1/2 this much) = $5.69
  • $.99 Cream Cheese x 2 = $1.98
  • $.59 Imperial Stick Butter = $.59
  • $.39 Tomato Paste x 4 = $1.56
  • $2.39 Parmesan Cheese = $2.39
  • Total = $18.15

Third Stop – Kroger

As you can see I like me some Kroger! They just seem to have just about everything I need and most of the time at the lowest prices! They had a great sale on chicken this week which made me a VERY HAPPY woman.

  • $1.54 Celery x 2 = $3.08
  • $.98 Green Pepper = $.98
  • $1 Kroger Sour Cream x 2 = $2
  • $.89 Kroger Green Chilies x 2 = $1.78
  • $.39 Rotel x 2 = $.78
  • $1.89 French Fried Onions x 2 = $3.78
  • $1.19 Ranch Style Beans x 3 = $3.57
  • $.90 Kroger Enchilada Sauce x 4 = $3.60
  • $1.88/lb Chicken Breasts = $11.84
  • $1.49/lb Kroger Ground Beef = $6.49
  • Kroger Round Steak = $4.51
  • $2 Kroger Sausage = $2
  • $1.09 Ortega Taco Seasoning = $1.09
  • $1.99 Kroger Brown Rice = $1.99
  • $1.99 Barilla No Boil Lasagna Noodles = $1.99
  • $1.49 Kroger Wheat Pasta x 4 = $5.96
  • $1.19 Kroger Hamburger Buns x 2 = $2.38
  • $3.29 Tarragon Leaves = $3.29 (Found in manager’s special bins)
  • Total = $61.11

I didn’t end up needing to go to a warehouse club this month because I found such great deals at these other stores! Check back this weekend when I reveal to you what our total monthly spending cam to and how much we paid per meal. I could tell you now but what is the fun in that! (Actually, the real reason is I want to make sure we don’t have to run out for any emergency items today when we are doing our cooking. You never know and those do factor in to the overall budget).

I’m just a little confused….are you making the February menu this weekend, or are you starting your March menu?

Great question (and another reason I need to get that about page done)! We posted the February menu on the 1st of February and have spent the whole month shopping for the foods when they are on sale. This last week we are making the foods on the February menu and will be eating the food in March. The March menu that we will be shopping for all month will post on March 1st! Some people are just taking the February menu and shopping for it all in a day or two and still making it. That is an option also!
