Things I Love Thursday: Britax Frontier 85
Disclosure: Britax provided me with a Frontier 85 to review. All the opinions in this post are mine, want to know more about how I facilitate reviews, view my full disclosure policy!
As Tessa began to grow like a weed it was clear that I wasn’t going to have a petite little girl on my hands. No, in fact, we were going to have a crazy growing giant on our hands instead. Which meant no infant carrier car seat for very long. Her poor long legs just wouldn’t fit. And mamas poor arms couldn’t handle the weight either.
Since Isaac is still only 27 lbs and will be in a car seat for a long time to come, we weighed our options as far as upgrading car seats. We have two vehicles which each have a convertible car seat in them for him. So as we saw it we had two options:
1. Get a Combo car seat that would transition into a booster for him at a later date and give Tessa the convertible car seat that he was using.
2. Get Tessa a convertible car seat and leave Isaac in the convertible car seats he was already in.
In my research, I looked to see what were the top of the line car seats for this age/weight. As you can see, two of the four listed were Britax seats. We have always owned Evenflo convertible car seats and have loved them so I was surprised to not see them on this list. Which is what got me super curious about Britax. I know people swear by them but I have never really had a chance to see them myself.
Well, I had my chance as Britax sent me their Frontier 85. It is a Combo car seat which means that it is designed for kids from 25 lbs to 120 lbs. That means that I could ride in it! Ha! (And being only 5 foot 2 inches I sometimes could use a boost.)
What I love the most about it is that it means that I don’t have to go buy him a separate booster seat later, the 5 point harness can be removed and the regular seat belt restraint used when he gets to the appropriate height and weight.
As a mom the safety features and added extra comforts (well padded harnesses, cloth protector from buckle, cup holders) are huge pluses with this seat. But the ultimate test is whether it stands up to the toddlers standard. So we asked him:

And for those of you that don’t speak toddler, he is saying “I like two, I like two” which refers to the TWO cup holders on each side that conveniently hold drinks, snacks and hot wheels!) As you can see, we weren’t the only ones that like the “new car seat”! We are happy that Isaac is too!
Britax car seats are bit more expensive than most car seats that are on the market. But I can say from experience that their attention to safety, comfort and overall experience are worth the extra bit of cash that you will invest in them. And to know that this is the last car seat that my toddler will need is yet another added cost savings to figure in.

My oldest would love this bigger kid carseat that looks like a booster seat like all of her friends are riding in now, that she isn’t big enough to ride in yet!
We have both a Britax Marathon and a Graco Nautilus. The Britax is definitely comfy — my four year old loves it. But I HATE that it doesn’t have a cup holder! We live in the desert and take water everywhere and I constantly have to reach back and get her water. It looks like the Frontier has cup holders, though! I wish I could switch!

we have a frontier. I got one RIGHT after they came out. LOVE it!!! and now that my bigger kid has moved on to a regular booster, my smaller kid is in the frontier. and hes just as comfy as his brother was!

I LOVE the fact that the Frontier is so long lasting!! I like that they can ride in it and never grow out of it. My youngest is only a couple pounds from outgrowing his infant carrier, my back and arms are telling me it needs to be sooner than later… So this means he will be kicking my 2 year old out of his convertable seat so the baby can have it. I would LOVE for my 2 year old to be able to be in a nice safe carseat that is comfy too!!!

I would LOVE to win this seat for my 2 year old, as he just went over the 40 pound weight limit that most carseats with harnesses top out at!! He is definitely too young for a booster, so we’re stuck!

The feature I like is that it turns into a belt positioning booster.
What I dislike is how wide the base is.
I have a minivan, not a limo, and with four children in 5-point harnesses, it’s snug. Although it looks like Britax made the Frontier a smidge narrower footprint-wise than the original Frontier (which I currently have in storage since it was too big!).

I love the weight range. As it is, I have an infant seat and a convertible and will still have to get a third seat when my son grows out of his current seat! And we have a second one on the way.
We got this for our son and love it. It is going to be the next car seat we buy for our daughter.

I think what I like the best is the fact that you can easily adjust the headrest and harness. That is such a pain on other models when you have to take it apart to change it around!

I LOVE the fact it has built in cup holders and the fact it can be used up to 125 lbs!
We are currently hunting for a new carseat as our youngest will be needing a convertible seat pretty soon. I really like that there are two cup holders. The two seats we have now have one cup holder each, but it always seems like we could use a little more storage for the little ones on long trips.
I like the reputation of safety that the Britax car seat have.

Britax rules – it is SO easy to put in your car and the double cup holders is definitely a bonus for Mr. HotWheels at our house. Lightening McQueen and Mac could have their very own private cup holders with this seat (LOL!)
I love how easy it is to readjust the harness. I don’t know how many headaches I’ve had with our other carseats when we have to take the whole thing apart practically just to adjust the height!

We bought Britax carseats for both of our kids and now we’re thinking of moving to the boosters – even though their carseats will work for them for another year or so. They are wanting to be able to ‘do the straps’ themselves and with carpool this will be important.
I only do Britax seats as we had a friend who lost her baby in a crash and after did research and learned that Britax really did have the most amazing safety standards. So, I go with them and also say some prayers.

I love that the Frontier can safely hold a child to such a high weight! My husband has a son from his 1st marriage (5 1/2) who is in an Evenflo booster. I feel that it is SO unsafe as I have caught my stepson pulling the belt off to get a toy from the floor. If I win this, I will BURN that other one! By the way, I am a fan!

We have two in seats currently; one is an evenflo & the other is an Eddie Bauer. I must say I was as happy as pie to score the EB seat at only $40; both of the seats are designed to go from hospital to Kindergarted. (We really wanted to get our moneys worth & not have to buy another seat) However, one child is 34 months old and the other is 12 mths & both seats now need to be replaced. A little dismayed you could say I am. I’ve wanted a Britax ever since I first heard of the company, but with 6 kids (one getting ready to enter college) we could never afford to purchase 2 of them. If I was blessed with at least one seat, you have no idea how appreciative I would be. Thanks for giving us all a chance to get this wonderful offer!

My favorite feature by far is the extended weight limit on this seat. We just bought Britax car seats for our two older girls (we want them to stay in a five point harness till they are at least 80 seats. This is due to information found at the Kyle David Miller Foundation website).

Love the weight range! Scary, though, that it goes up to 120 pounds… don’t think I know ANY children still riding in boosters at that weight.
We NEED a Britax Frontier. My daughter is 3, but so tall that she has outgrown the straps on her Britax Marathon. The Frontier is the only seat on the market that has straps that are tall enough, and we just aren’t ready to move her up to a booster.

My favorite is that it’s the only carseat I’ll need.
I love that the seat fits from 25 pounds past 100! perfect…as you can have your little one in a 5 point harness as long as possbile!!! which is a huge plus for us.. carseat safety is a big plus in our home!

The Britax Frontier 85 is the ONLY car seat out right now that I would allow for my growing children, because it is recommended by IIHS, has a 5-pt harness up to 85 lbs, and the seat is long enough for long legs (unlike the Evenflo Maestro). These are critial features for me, and this seat is the only one that meets this criteria. Besides that, it’s the most comfortable, has perfect cup holders and is attractive. We would love to win this seat for our 5 1/2 year old that is almost grown from his other seat and who’s under 40lbs, which is too small for seat belt boosters.

I like the cup holders- but most importantly I like all of the extra safety features like inforced steel bars that Britax uses in their carseats- they spent alot more time and energy into testing than most companies.

I love the Britax Frontier because it looks like my 8 year old’s Britain booster but will give very small 4 year old the safety of the Britain 5point harness n he so wants out of his Boulevard to be big kid. This looks like the best of both worlds!

just subscribed and will fb like you shortly…have my eye on the frontier because our boy is in th regent but is too tall needs the legroom the frontier will give by sitting back farther on the seat. Love that the harness can be removed, love how well he fits in it and most of all the cupholders (well maybe not *most of all*).
I love the extra safety features of the Britax. My husband is an insurance adjuster and sees cars at their worst after accidents. I’m always needing some reassurance!

My favorite part is the built in safety harness. The one we have now we always have to use the car seatbelt and it always gets tangled and never wants to retract. We would LOVE this. Thanks

I LOVE the fact that it is SAFE and can be used for years! We’ve already purchased 3 carseats for my quickly growing son with at least one more (booster) being required. This would SAVE us money!!

I love that it is not only a forward facing carseat but also a booster…I am not a fan of buying carseats…the fewer the better!!
I’m a fan! And I am in the process of shopping for a new seat for my 5 year old – turns out his isn’t rated even on the good list for boosters so I went to put his back together as a car seat and saw that he is above the weight limit for using it as such. Would LOVE the 5 point harness and added weight limit! Thanks!!!

I love that it is very easy to install and it grows as your child does. I have a two year old and a 9 month old, who is about ready to move to the bigger car seat. It is very difficult to find a great car seat that is easy to set up in your car.

Wow – my little girl is 17 months and still growing like a weed – at her 16 month appt she finally got on the chart at 105%!!! Now we are expecting another, so this would be a great thing to move her into at the 2 year mark, and if this new little one is anything like her (I am already measuring consistently 2 weeks ahead) then he/she could move into her current seat when he/she outgrows the carrier (probably at 4 months like out little girl!

I LOVE Britax!!! We too have big kids, so need the higher height weight limits!
I like the higher harness weight on the Frontier. I have a son with autism, and a booster seat is NOT appropriate for him at all, as he’s constantly unbuckling himself…not safe!

I love the five point harness feature – keeps kiddos much more secure than a traditional belt and is great if your kids are super wiggly (they can’t wiggle the harness loose or unlatch themselves as easily either).
I love that I could use it from when my kids are smaller all the way until they are done needing to be in a car seat! Awesome!
I love the top head rest. I know there are TONS of other great features but with sleeping kids it nice so they are not bobble heads
