Things I Love Thursday: My Birthday!

Warning: This is a totally narcissitic post. The opinions are my own, no one paid me to say them, although I would be happy if they offered to.

Happy Birthday to me,

Happy Birthday to me,

Haaappppyyyy Biiiiirrrrtttthhhhhdaaaayyyy to meeeeeee,

Happy Birthday to me!

Ha! Well, you guessed it! Today is my birthday. Hence my love for birthdays. Do you love your birthday? I have been asking around lately and some care a whole lot, some care very little. Me, I care.

The greatest gifts in my life after my salvation!

When I was younger my parents went away and left us home on my birthday one year and in another consecutive year (when I was in high school) they drug me to Thomas Jefferson’s home at Monticello for my birthday (yea – I was NOT thrilled). Needless to say, I might have been a *little* bitter over that for awhile. Or maybe still.

So these days, hubby has some high expectations when it comes to celebrating my birthday. Now don’t get me wrong, I don’t want a bunch of great gifts (although I won’t turn them down – he he) what I really want is a day dedicated to me. A day where you show me that you know me well enough to gift me with things that mean something to me. Even if that is a kitchen appliance. I obviously cook!

I also love surprises. And it is not easy to surprise me. We will see if hubby succeeds.

This year I am just relaxing at home with the kiddos like every other day. And then for dinner we are headed to Outback because we have a serious addiction to their cheese fries. Doesn’t sound like all the frill that I seem to be writing that I want? That is because hubby is making the plans and we are actually celebrating next week because plans couldn’t work out just right for tonight. I’m cool with that. You know why? Because it is a SURPRISE what we are doing AND because it means I have a whole other week to continue celebrating the best day of the year, other than Christmas (for Christ’s birth, not the presents)!

So how do you like to celebrate your birthday?

Happy Birthday! My daughter’s is also today.

For my birthday, which is in January, we go to Kansas City and go ice skating as a family. Then sometime that month I will get together w/ my dear girl friends and pick the place where we go out to eat. This past January we went out for burgers and bowling. It was a hilarious!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY! I really love celebrating birthdays! Mostly because my parents are young (my mom was barely 16 when I was born) and late into the pregnancy she decided that she didn’t want me but because she was so young and far into her pregnancy she needed permission for my grandparents who didn’t know about me yet and she wasn’t ready to let them know about me. I am glad that ultimately she choose life. So it is a full out party for birthdays around here. Usually a family dinner on the day and a party sometime around the person’s birthday. I hope that you enjoy your week long celebration! And again HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Tricia, I’m pleased to see you continue to be successful with your career path. I see you are extending your birthday celebration from a day to a week. As for me, my birthday is in August and I celebrate the entire month. Both of my children were also born in August so it is an opportunity for some self-indulgence as well as an homage to mothering. Have a good summer.

First of all, happy late birthday. I think birthdays are meant to be celebrated and it is perfectly fine to spread that celebration out over several days. I think the day should focus around what that person likes and enjoys. My birthday was earlier in the month and I didn’t do anything exciting but I did have fun and we were able to do several things together as a family – which is what I wanted to do.
