Think Ahead Thursday: Fall

img_2898For as long as I can remember summer has been my favorite season. I love just sitting by the pool, reading a good book and catching some rays. Now that I have a little one summer just seems to drain me. Now going to the pool is enjoyable but takes about 45 minutes more of preparation. And relaxing? No way. I spend the whole time walking around letting him hold my fingers, playing in the water, and fending off school aged kids who I wish were still in school . . .I suppose I got to ignore all that when I was sitting in my lounge chair before.

At any rate, I am realizing that these days I am loving fall more and more. You know when the air gets that crisp coolness and you can open up the house again. When you can walk outside and still be able to breath. Around here it has turned fall-like the past week. It reminded me that this season has a lot of perks and fun stuff in store. And saying good-bye to summer isn’t all that bad (although heading towards winter isn’t exactly my cup of tea).

This weather has definitely got me thinking and planning for the next few months and this new season of exploration with my now 1 year old. Here are a few of things that are in store for us this fall:

1. Daddy & Mommy Getaway Weekend to Chicago

I don’t know how it happened but I was able to purchase U2:360 Tour tickets for myself and my husband when they went on sale months ago. It turns out the show is the weekend following his birthday and he is obsessed a die hard U2 fan so I was pretty excited. I usually can keep secrets but I had to tell him about this. We decided to make a weekend of it and getaway. I think it will be perfect timing for spending time with one another before the new addition. It will, however, be the first time BOTH of us are away for a couple days from our son. I am looking forward to it nonetheless.

2. Fulton Farms Pumpkin Patch

Three years ago we inadvertently started a tradition of going to the local produce farm (the same place that supplies me a Happy Box) to pick pumpkins. They have animals out, a mini corn maze, a children’s straw maze, a hayride and the chance to go out and choose your own pumpkin. Last year we bundled our 2 month old son and endured the cold. It was so much fun! I can’t wait to take him this year as he is walking and can enjoy so many of the activities and can even pick his own pumpkin.

I am sure there is much more in store, but for now, those are the things that I am most looking forward to. What about you? Are there fall activities that you really enjoy? How do you feel about this season? What do you have planned for the coming months?

Our family LOVES Fall! For us, it is kicked off during the last weekend in August when we attend our friends’ bonfire party complete with a hayride, then comes the beginning of school, FOOTBALL, crisp weather, decorating and planning for Halloween, pretty leaves falling from the trees, who couldn’t help but LOVE Fall?? One of my favorite traditions is purchasing a new Apple Pie scented candle to burn in the house while I’m decorating for the season. :) Fall also means that I can begin making my yummy chili again!!

I really love fall! We go to the Bob Evans farm festival, and the Milton Pumpkin Festival, Court Days, bonfires, Maize Maze…. We love going out in the cool air and eating kettle corn, shopping for crafts and just being together. I do wonder what it will be like next year though when our oldest is in Kindergarten.

Fall is my favorite time of year. Time to begin Painting gourds to look like outrageous jack-o-lanterns. Our church has its annual Community Outreach Fall Festival in our little town of 250.
    I love it.

Pumpkin carving, Fall Fests, a trip to the corn maze, chili, pot roast and 5 hour stew, bright colored trees, and piles of leaves, the first dusting of snow…these are a few of my favorite autumn things! Oh! and I definitely can’t leave out Pumpkin Spice Latte’s.
