Think Ahead Thursday: Holiday Appetizers

I mentioned when we started this series that I would be thinking ahead a lot to the winter holidays. I will change it up a bit here and there but for now I could really use some feedback from all of you on the holiday meals and menus. I am trying to get things lined up for having a little one so sooner is better for me.

This week I want to talk about appetizers that you serve either at Thanksgiving or Christmas. I have been racking my brain and the only “real” appetizers that I can think of that we have would be a relish tray with a dill dip and a cheese ball and crackers. That is pretty much it. We don’t really like to spoil our appetites for the BIG meal.

What about in your home? Do you serve appetizers before the meals? (Thanksgiving and/or Christmas) If so, please tell us what they are and if there is a certain holiday they get served at. Also, if you have link to that particular recipe on your site, leave that in your comments as well. If not, feel free to email me the recipe so that I can consider its inclusion on a holiday menu.

We serve appetizers from the moment family gets in town til they leave :) The holidays are one big eating fest :) There are always snacky things around – cheese balls, mozzarella sticks, hot wings, meatballs, lil smokies (mini hotdogs), cookies, candies, veggies and dip, and more! love it!

  2. I feel like we have more appetizers on the S side of the family, but they are still the basic relish trays and cheese and crackers. And once, caviar. ;) \n\nBut here are some of my favorite appetizers. The wontons are kind of difficult, but they are SUPER good.\n\nAntipasto Salsa\n\nButternut Squash Wontons

We do appetizers, but mostly because we eat our big meal at an odd hour…like 2 pm. So we usually start munching on appetizers around 11:30 – things like sausage balls, veggies and dip, cheese straws, spinach & artichoke dip, and I usually make apple bundles (pampered chef recipe)…and they aren’t traditional appetizers, but they are easy to hold/eat. I’ll send the recipe later. :)

My mother-in-law has every type of appetizer possible at Thanksgiving and Christmas. Pumpernickle Bread and Spinach Dip, Spinach Artichoke Dip, Shrimp Ball, Wings, Jelly over Brie Cheese with crackers. YUM!

We serve appetizers off and on all year. Shrimp is a favorite since we cannot always afford it. I had eggrolls that I got for a decent price through MarketDay and that was a nice treat. For the actual holidays we folks just love the actual meal. No appetizers needed. Leftovers also get an appreciative enjoyment too.
