This Week Brought To You By: The Letter “V”
We are focusing on the letter “V” this week. “V” is a weird letter isn’t it? How in the world did I come to decide to focus on the letter “V”? Well, because we are obsessed in love with some volleyball around here. I suppose I should say that my husband loves some volleyball. I, on the other hand, have never and likely will never be athletic in any way. But since he loves the sport we try to make sure that Isaac is exposed. And since the AVP Crocs Tour is in town this weekend we are giving our little guy a full dose of volleyball. So, hence, the focus on the letter “V”. Here are some other things that we are focusing on with the letter “V”: vases, valentines (not exactly February but it works) and “vroom”.
Books:
We read tw0-three books each morning after breakfast. This seems to be the best time to get him to sit without wiggling and stay engaged. Here are the books that I got:
- My “V” Sound Box
by Jane Belk Moncore, illustrated by Rebecca McKillip Thornburgh (there are a series of these for lots of letters and sounds so you will be seeing them frequently on my list)
- The Vase of Many Colors
by Rachel Thoene
- Elmo’s Valentine
by David Prebenna
- Vroom, Chugga, Vroom-Vroom
by Anna Miranda
Activities:
We have pulled the “V” magnet off of the refrigerator and played with it many times. Also kept it within his grasp on the refrigerator.- I have a set of letters and number bath toys
and we have placed the “V” in the bathtub for playtime.
- At Blogher I received some great Land of Nod wooden blocks. We will pull out the āVā block and play with it a bit and focus on the animals and words on the block.
- My new favorite toy and learning tool!!!! Using one of our little guys birthday gift cards we got him the LeapFrog Fridge Phonics Magnetic Alphabet Set
, I love this thing! And better yet – so does my son! He loves the ABC’s song that it plays and the fact that there is something for him to play with on the refrigerator. I love it because it is teaching him phonics (something I am not real good at so I am learning too). I put the letter of the week in so that is the one he always starts with. Check out what he thinks of it:
Sounds:
- “vvvv”
- “vroom, vroom” – one of daddy’s favorite sounds
Songs:
Looking for some songs to teach your child? Here are some that we will be singing this week:
- I’ve got nothing! Sorry.
Foods:
- Vanilla flavored . . . .
- Vegetables – ooh, we could really use to focus on this!
What Else?
What else would you do when focusing on the letter “V”? Any activities or games that you have done in the past? No matter the age of the child, feel free to add your favorite books, songs, foods, activities, and more below in the comments section. We would love to hear them and share them with others.
