Top Ten Tuesday: Answers to Favorite Toddler Words
Last week for Top Ten Tuesday I posted a video of my son saying some of my favorite words right now. He is 20 months old and every day is quite the adventure. Why don’t they offer “Toddler” as a language in high school? Most days I need a translator. And so do some of my readers it seems.
Here is what I asked readers to do last week:
There are 10 words in the video and they are all numbered. Watch the video and make a guess as to what the words are. Some are easier than others. And sorry, he isn’t looking at the camera for each word. That’s what makes it a challenge. When you have your 10 guesses, email your answers to me. From those that guess correctly the one person that got the closest on the most answers will win this fabulous Amy Coe baby bedding set.
I got such a kick out of reading the guesses to the puzzle. So without further ado, I will reveal to you the answers to the videoed words:

1. Nasty!
My husband informed me on night that he had taught him to say this word. I laughed out loud the next morning when the toddler ran across a wilted strawberry, but it in his mouth and exclaimed, “NASTY!” Oh. My. Goodness. It was too cute. (Special congrats to Kathy who actually got this one right, she didn’t think that she did which was even more amusing.)
2. Yuck!
Wow, where did that face come from? He really went all out on that word. I was so impressed.
3. Bopum
What? I know, I know, that one was a hard one to guess. And yes, bopum is a word in this house. It is the word he uses for mom. Honestly, I don’t know where it started or why. I do remember the day that I he kept repeating and repeating it and I finally discovered that he was referring to me. He knows how to say mom and he knows that I am his mom, however, he stands by bopum. I really hope it doesn’t go away. And now my husband is trying to teach it to Tessa too! It is so sweet having a term of endearment word from your son. (I accepted anything that was close to this).
4. Daddun or sometimes Daddum
It is a little more obvious that this word means dad. Again, this is Isaac’s made up word for dad. He uses it regular and loves his daddum. It is so cute. (I did except dad as an answer on the quiz).
5. Stinky
This is another fun one. It gets used a lot when we are changing his diapers. He thinks it is downright hilarious. I am glad someone thinks his dirty diapers are funny, because I sure don’t.
6. Baby
Yep, that one was pretty easy if you ask me. He was headed to the video monitor to point out where she was. In case I had forgotten.
7. Sit
Many of you got this one. Which I take to mean that you have little ones as well (or have in the past) and struggled with this word. It definitely sounds like a curse word. And he loves, to repeatedly say it when he is suppose to be sitting down, when he wants to sit and read a book, when he wants up in a chair, you know, all. of. the. time. We chuckle at it a lot but are hoping that he quits putting an “h” in it sometime soon.
8. Bubbles
This one is kind of muffled because he is looking the other way but he was getting impatient with me!
9. Me me (aka NEMO)
This one is one where you would have to know him to know the translation. I expected everyone to just say me me or mi mi. Most people thought it meant something like grandma. Nope, it means Nemo. And I was surprised (and SUPER impressed) that Rochelle did get it! She had run across my Top Ten Tuesday on Nemo, and well, she saw it written in that post. Nice detective work!
10. Oh No More
It is actually a combination of “Oh No” and “No More” a clear indication that he is done talking to the camera and repeating words and would like to go outside and play. A perfect ending to my video!
If I had been thinking straight I would have put in him saying “Bible” or “Mamen” which are actually my favorite of his words. But of course I thought of those AFTER the video! Dang.
Thank you SO much to everyone that entered! I loved doing this and loved seeing your responses and involvement. I hope you aren’t mortified I have posted your score! Perhaps you can join me in “Toddler” language class.
