Top Ten Tuesday: eBay Classifieds
eBay Classifieds was just introduced last week! It was formerly known as Kijiji which apparently has great success in Canada but was a little harder for us American’s to grasp. Go figure. At any rate, the launch of eBay Classifieds means some great new features and things for you as well.
And for all of you Craig’s List fanatics, this Top Ten Tuesday is for you. It is why eBay Classifieds is BETTER than Craig’s List!
1. WAY better interface
When I first used eBay Classifieds (Kijiji) I was immediately impressed with the interface. It was much more user and shopper friendly! There are pictures that appear with each post which is an immediate plus for me. I don’t have to click through to the item description to see if it is something I am interested in.
2. It is safe for my kids
What do you mean, safe for your kids? Well, eBay Classifieds has made a commitment that if your children are sitting in your lap while you are at your computer and on their site, you won’t have to shield their eyes from shameful advertising and other issues. It is family friendly. There isn’t even a personals section on the site!
3. Spam filtering
For similar reasons as above they have a series of filters and techniques for filtering out spam messages to online listers. There is a lot of technical mumbo jumbo that was described but the bottom line is, they work hard to make sure that you aren’t getting tons of spam (yes, the occasional one slips through the cracks).
4. Personal customer service
Concerned about a post you just did? Confused? Something not working like you think it should? Simply contact eBay Classifieds. A real person (from the good ole US of A – okay maybe Canada, but I met them they are nice – will answer the phone to answer your question(s).
5. There is an iPhone application!
This is so great for those with iPhones. Just yesterday I went to the basement and found an item to list on eBay Classifieds. With my phone in hand it only took me 7 minutes and 15 seconds to take the pictures, list the item and confirm the email. All on my phone! (Yes, I timed it using my iPhone timer!) It is just that easy. I can no longer use the excuse that I didn’t have my computer or camera around to be able to list products. (Darn).
Even if you don’t have an iPhone, you can still list products in a short amount of time. The interface and questions are easy to fill out and answer and you don’t have to sign up for an account to list.
6. Search EVERYWHERE for an item
I did a quick search for freezers. Look what I found! Depending on which part of the country you live in, you could be doing OAMM cooking soon if the only thing holding you back was having a stand alone freezer. I love this feature of the site. I don’t have to go here there and everywhere to look for an item. Just type it into the search bar and BAM!
7. See what else a seller is selling!
If you are interested in a product, one of my favorite features is that you can see what else they might be selling at the same time! For instance, if you are interested in a crib that someone is selling and you look at their profile of what else they are selling you will see that they may also be selling other baby equipment you might be interested in purchasing. This is also great for the seller because they are only getting contacted once for multiple items.
8. Try to sell on eBay first!
If you have items that you are trying to sell on eBay and it is not successful, you can just import your information from your eBay auction to eBay Classifieds and try to sell the item locally! How cool is that?
9. Share on Facebook and Twitter
Want your friends and fellow tweeters to know you are selling something? Simply click on the Facebook or Twitter links and send a message out about your posting. It can all be done with a few clicks on the eBay Classifieds site. And you know what? I have even seen eBay Classifieds retweeting these postings as well. It is awesome exposure for your local goods.
10. Flag ads
Can’t remember where you saw an item listed? No problem. When you are looking through, simply flag ads you are interested in so that you can find them easily when you return! This is so much easier than creating bookmarks for all the items I am interested in.
There are many more features yet to come. The team behind the scenes at eBay Classifieds are committed to making the site easy to use, family-friendly and the place YOU go to list and find your online classifieds. I encourage you to start clearing out your spring clutter by listing items. I have listed items on both sites and have only successfully sold through eBay Classifieds.
Oh wait, I have one more but am out of numbers – well, you should know this by now – eBay Classifieds listings are FREE. Yes, free! It is so great!

Hmm… I’m traditionally a ‘craigslister’ but I’m def going to check this out! Thanks!
AWESOME. I’ve never sold on craigslist b/c of the negatives you’ve listed. But I totally want to check out the new ebay! Thanks for the info!
haha I guess Canada does use it more since I’ve been using Kijiji forever! lol
I love it! It’s how I got rid of a ton of old stuff I no longer needed (and it felt great knowing the my old stuff was going to a loving new home!)
[...] It. Felt. Good. There is so much more to do but I have a tackle list for everything now. Including finally tackling the kids rooms. And just in time to help with how to tackle this project is eBay Classifieds (haven’t heard of them, read what I wrote in early spring)! [...]
