TRADITIONAL January 2011 OAMM Menu (OAMC, Once A Month Cooking, Freezer Cooking)

cooking-link1

Welcome to 2011! Happy New Year! I am so so excited to get this year under way. There are so many great things in store at this sight in 2011. Including the debut of a Once A Month Mom DIET menu! Woot! So if you were feeling a little sad that you still needed to do oamc but were needing to cut back the calories, head on over and check out the menu Christine has whipped up for you!

Buffalo Chicken Shepherd's Pie

In the meantime, everyone else that isn’t watching their waste-line (no harm in that, right?) can stay right here and see what I have in store for you for January. I have to say, this is one of my favorite menus in the last few 6 months or so. Perhaps it is all the recipes that include buffalo sauce! We love buffalo sauce and I have come to find out that many of you do to! And given that it is the hear to football season, I thought you could use some recipes that you can serve on game day as well as throughout the month.

Oh yea, I almost forgot! From here on out we will be referring to this menu as the TRADITIONAL menu. With the addition of new menu types I want to make sure you aren’t confused about which menu is which.

So without further ado, the January 2011 Traditional Once A Month Mom menu. . .ENJOY!

I hope you enjoy these meals as much as our early readers/cooks have. If you are new and not sure how to get started, read here. For frequently asked questions visit here. And there are several other helpful links under the Helpful Hints/Resources section below to help you on your cooking journey. Good luck!

I think i am going to be a hybrid this month and use some from the traditional menu and use the new diet menu too. They all look so yummy!

  2. Andrea says:

So.. I am new to this.. :) and REALLY REALLY want to try this out.. but my husband doesn’t like bbq anything :( by looking at other menu’s I see that there is a “theme for the month” and this one is the bbq chicken kinda stuff – is there any way to substitute into a spread sheet to change it up and have the recipes and grocery list be updated to reflect that? Thanks! I am so sorry to be such a bother! :)

    • tricia says:

hmm, actually this one is more of Buffalo Chicken kind of stuff but maybe he doesn’t like this. There are a few options. You can always look at past menus to see if there is some help there. As far as adjusting for yourself, you can do that too! Here are step-by-step instructions for making a copy of the menu for yourself which you can then make changes to: http://onceamonthmom.com/using-google-docs/ If you are still confused after reading that feel free to email me. :)

      Oh and WELCOME! :)

THANK YOU THANK YOU AGAIN!

My 12 year old daughter has been bugging me to help with dinner for the last couple of months. we found your site and thought this is the perfect way to spend some quality mother daughter time cooking and my 18 year old daughter can have dinner on the table for us all when we get home every night. Cant wait to get started.

  4. Andrea says:

Ok.. so you guys are going to be SICK OF ME!!! :) My husband looked at the menu and said.. has anyone ever made the recipes.. WITHOUT the buffalo sauce? So it looks like I can alter them that way!? I am sure it won’t be as nummy.. but for the sake of our marriage (LOL) I will give it a shot! If it turns out horrible I will let you know! :)

    • tricia says:

No reason to be sick of you! We like commenters. Go for it and tell us how it turns out. I think you are right, most recipes will be alright without it!

      • Andrea says:

I will let you know! and thank you for being patient with me! I got everything purchased today and will take care of the prep work tonight! I am SO STOKED!!! and the awesome part was…(and seriously I bought everything listed on the grocery list and then some extras.. like cold cereal because my kids love it sometimes, and other things (soda, chips for hubby’s lunches, etc.)… but my total grocery bill was only $329.00 Which is pretty much amazing!!!!!!

    • Jodi says:

What about switching to a sauce you like, like instead of buffalo chicken pizza do a BBQ pizza instead, or a terriaki chicken pizza. I alter most recipes that I get on these menus as I’m a picky eatter and I just switch things out for things I like, for instance, I don’t like lemon chicken, so I’m going to make a butter rosemarry garlic chicken instead. So that I stick with the main portien and basic idea that was had, but switch out the things that don’t suit my taste.

      • Andrea says:

Thanks for the great idea Jodi! I will do that for sure! My hubby is picky sometimes.. me.. I eat just about anything! lol But again, THANK YOU! for the idea!!! So excited to do this!!

I’m very excited about trying this frezzer cooking. But, I am confused with how to use the spread sheet for the recipies. Can anyone help me?

  7. AMAZING MENU!! I was going to try the diet one, but this
one looks just fine! Not too fatty, and DELICIOUS!! I LOVE buffalo
sauce! I may do a separate baggy of non buffalo chicken and use
teriyaki for my daughter. Thanks! I can’t wait! This will be me 2nd
    OAMC big day!

  8. Sandra says:

I am adopting the spiced honey lemon chicken for my meal swap connect group..there are 10 of us ladies and we each pick a freezer meal, make 10 and then get together and swap. We each walk away with 10 ready made dinners to bring home for our families. I was wondering, how many does each meal serve? We try to cook each meal for 6 people so I’m trying to figure out how to convert the recipe amounts to suit 10 meals for 6 people each.

    Thanks!

  9. Amanda says:

I have been to your page a few times. The recipes always
seem to be very high quality and “classier” than standard OMAC
fare! Although I have been on Weight Watchers for over a month now
the traditional menu seems more appealing for my family and I am
going to try to make it with some “points” friendly
    tweaks.

When I made the breakfast Taquitos I didn’t think I was going to have any left to freeze. The hubby and kids couldn’t quit eating them. I wasn’t even sure the kids would eat them when they way the “green and red stuff”. LOL But they loved them!!! I will have to make another couple of batches to get us through the month.
