TRADITIONAL November 2011 OAMM Menu (OAMC, Once A Month Cooking, Freezer Cooking)

cooking-link1This month’s menu, based on seasonal produce such as broccoli, sweet potatoes, beets, kale, and potatoes was dubbed “interesting” and may stretch you a bit as it encourages a slew of veggies that may not be on your “traditional” plate (at least they weren’t on mine!!).  But trying new foods can be good for you, right? After browsing the recipes, let me know what you think about this month’s menu choices. And don’t forget, you can always go back through the archives and use another menu if you are looking for something different.

**Please note there is a Once A Month Mom Holiday eCookbook Blowout Sale on Wednesday, November 2nd starting at 9:30 Eastern Standard Time. Don’t miss out.

I hope you enjoy these meals as much as our early readers/cooks have. If you are new and not sure how to get started, read here. For frequently asked questions visit here. Test Cooks

Each month we have some wonderful volunteers who “test” out the menu prior to publication. They do an amazing job of helping to eliminate confusion and mistakes. They may not catch everything but they sure do catch A LOT! Here is a little bit about this month’s test cooks:

  • Heather Allen – I’m a work at home mom (nurse medical coder) to 3 boys (2) 9′s and a 14, and a sweet hubby of 24 years! I am a veteran bulk/freezer cook whose love of cooking and spending time in the kitchen trying new recipes, has the benefit of feeding this constantly hungry herd!

I tried to print the recipes & grocery list, but for some reason they won’t print properly. Not sure if it’s an issue with google docs or what… but I just wasted quite a bit of time, paper & ink : (

My niece shared your site with me. However, I’m surprised that “the big Day” is not even mentioned in your recipes or preparations. That would be a day when this might be the most helpful.

      Welcome! Glad you found us!
Since you are new to the site I would recommend reading our upcoming Get Started series to help you understand the process further.
The “big cooking day” is outlined in the instructions as linked above.
The printable recipe cards we have linked above are also all written in support of a big cooking day as we describe.
The links for the individual recipes you see above do not all have “big cooking day” reference because they are not all of our recipes.

I hope this helps. If you have more questions, feel free to e-mail us at info@Onceamonthmom.com.

I am so grateful for this wonderful (and let us not forget, free!) web site. I appreciate everything you do. It looks like you knocked it out of the ball park again with this months menu(s) (the other menus look great too)! I like having all the seasonal veggies (kale, sweet potatoes, etc) as they are so super nutritious for my family. I don’t know how you find all the awesome blog recipes, but love that I can explore new blogs every month too!

  5. Heather says:

Thanks for this! I’d been thinking about trying once a month cooking and you made it so easy. We’re a big, three-generation household (4 adults and 4 children) so cooking takes quite a bit of time each day. Now my freezer is packed and dinner will be super easy this month. As tiring as doing all this cooking at once was (I did it a few hours at a time over the last 4 days), I am looking forward to doing it again next month.

I found your website this last summer and have recommended it to everyone I know. I LOVE it! I appreciate the hard work you do to provide all of this to us for free! Thank you so very much!!

Fantastic site! I am planning on starting OAMC very soon as I will be working full-time, going back to school, and have four kids and a hubby to schedule-juggle with as well. I have spent hours on here this morning since finding your site, and am no longer worried about finding enough variety in recipes to please my family. I also appreciate all the resources and tips you have gathered here. Thanks for everything you have here.

I found your site over the weekend. I have been looking for good freezer meals. I am on a tight budget and I have 3 little girls to feed and pack lunch for. My first freezer meal….uncrustables! Thank you, thank you, thank you! I am proud to say that 2 loaves of bread became about 20 sandwiches, homemade croutons, 2 bread pudding, and 12 bacon, egg, and cheese muffins! I never knew I could stretch bread that far! I am looking forward to making the menus…I get paid monthly, so it will help me with my budgeting! Thank you again…I have already spread the word to all my teacher friends!

We didn’t get all of our once a month cooking recipes done in last weekend. I hope to finish the rest of the recipes this weekend. I guess I have learned now not to try to doctor up recipes too much like I LOVE doing. Also in February I will not have our 2 year old around when we cook. I loved having his help but he made most things not very efficient. I do want to say thank you so much for what you do. I cannot believe that this is free! It is so exciting to find it free. I have seen many places that charge quite a bit for this and it is not nearly as well put together.

I am currently 3 weeks away from the due date of our second child. Looks like I found your site just in time! I chose to start with this menu because I already have quite a lot of it in my pantry/fridge already. I normally hate cooking, but with a newborn, I know I will loath it, so I’m planning on preparing these meals this coming week so that DH and our 2 yr old won’t starve the first month we’re home from the hospital! :) I’ll be back to let you know how it turns out!
