Are you a person that likes to see the menus visually? Perhaps you should check out the October 2012 Traditional Menu via Pinterest to see the yummy goodness you will be cooking up on this menu. Not sure what Pinterest is all about, check out what Once A Month Mom has to say about it.
Test Cooks
Each month we have some wonderful volunteers who “test” out the menu prior to publication. They do an amazing job of helping to eliminate confusion and mistakes. They may not catch everything but they sure do catch A LOT! If you are interested in test cook, feel free to volunteer. Here is a little bit about this month’s test cooks:
- Kari Romine – I am a stay at home mom of 3 and I love to cook. I strive to feed my family healthy, quick, and inexpensive meals and once a month cooking allows me to do that with out spending all day every day in the kitchen.
- Tessa Morris - I am a work at home mom. I homeschool my children, we have 3 boys and a girl. I love cooking and crafts, my favorite is crocheting.
Get Started
Are you new to Once A Month Mom or once a month cooking (oamc) in general? If so, you might want to spend a few minutes (or hours) on the Get Started Series. If you are in a real hurry to catch on we have written some simple steps for getting started. Welcome!

Thank you, thank you. My husband and I just tried the September meal plan yesterday, after having a house full of people over to watch football and eat strawberry pancakes. We did not get everything packaged, I’ll do the freezer only section today, but it was great to see, and smell, the food as we were making it (from scratch). I loved it when my 4 year old asked to have a breakfast muffin this morning, instead of whining about cereal again.
$7 is well worth the tools you have given me and my family :-)
Thank YOU for being a fan and a member!
Thanks so much for featuring my Roasted Corn & Potato Chowder on your wonderful site! New FB follower :)
I am a first time member of OAMM. We bought a new freezer on Sunday. I was so excited when I came across your site on Monday that I shopped Tuesday and cooked yesterday! My new freezer is full! I LOVED how easy and inexpensive per meal it was. I can’t wait for my family to try the chicken penne rustica and the taco chili(my kiddos had to have a bowl when they got home from school yesterday as it was cooling). I can’t wait to see next month’s menu. Thank you!!!
Welcome! We’re so happy to have you hear. More importantly we’re happy to have you come back too! Enjoy!
I have a question regarding the ham and beans recipie. I have pre-cooked ham would that be okay to cook on low for 8 hours? Would it get overcooked or do I need to use raw ham? I would hate for this ham to go to waste.
Precooked ham will be fine. If you are really worried about it, you could leave it out until the last hour and then add it to the crockpot.
I printed the grocery list, but I am not making all of the meals. Is there an easy way to figure out what ingredients I won’t need? I thought the recipe list would include which meal the ingredient was for? Overall, I am very pleased with the site. I am just too tired to think if I don’t have to :)
You will have to subtract the ingredients you don’t need from the grocery list manually. It takes too much time and would cause too many errors for us to include the meals for each ingredient on the grocery list with our current system. When we are able to build the new system you will be able to do that. . .until then this is a work around too – http://onceamonthmom.com/get-started-creating-a-custom-grocery-list/.
I love trying new recipes and saving them for emergencies such as a death that needs a meal.
I am so confused.there is not a whole months worth of recipes for October. What am I missing?
Michele, please refer to this post to help answer your question http://onceamonthmom.com/ive-got-some-serious-questions-about-this-once-a-month-cooking-thing/
I am really interested in trying your program. I have a few questions first. How do you account for family size? Freezing food makes me nervous…won’t certain foods not taste as good after being frozen? Or texture changes that aren’t as appetizing occur? Just wondering what your thoughts are concerning these questions. Thanks!
On the spreadsheets we provide, you are able to change the number of servings to fit your family. There are some foods that do not freeze well but the list is short and we adapt recipes to make sure those ingredients aren’t included. You can also check out our Get Started series, starting with this post. http://onceamonthmom.com/get-started-five-easy-steps-and-resources-for-starting-freezer-cooking/
How do we know the freezer instructions for the recipes that are on other websites?
Hey Jess, once you become a member, the recipe cards will have freezing instructions for all of the recipes.
Ok, thank you.
How can i send the entire meal plan to my ziplist?
Cami, currently you can’t send the entire menu to your ziplist but we create a grocery list for you. If you have questions on how to use it, let me know!
