Transitioning to Table Foods

The transition from baby purees to table foods has been a bit of a tricky situation for me and my son. It isn’t that he doesn’t like them but the whole figuring out what to feed him when, how much, how often just seemed a bit overwhelming. We are well on our way to making a full transition but it was definitely a rough road.

    I’m having the same problem! Especially with how much to feed my daughter. Also trying to find healthy items that don’t take too much time. Finding fruit that she’ll eat with her fingers is really hard too.. she’ll eat them pureed but won’t eat them diced. Thanks for the link…going to check it out now :o )

    Do you give your son dairy items such as yogurt and cheeses yet? My daughter has a milk allergy so I can’t really do that but I was just wondering if you have tried that?

      We are currently in love with grilled cheese and scrambled eggs. Haven’t tried yogurt yet. Well, I did but it didn’t go well. Planning on trying again this week. Mine would eat diced if I fed it to him at first and eventually he would touch it, you may want to try that route (if you haven’t already).

    This was much less of a problem with my second than my first. Make sure your little one is at the table with you when you eat. There’s something about watching adults or big kids eat that makes little ones want those foods. \n\nIn the beginning, my kids ate lots of cheerios and raisins. But I gave mine grean beans, peas, corn, grapes, bananas, strawberries, blueberries…pretty much everything…all cut up. \n\nFor the veggies, if you mix them with mashed potatoes, you have fewer wayward peas…and for bigger toddlers, they are easier to scoop than just peas alone. \n\nFor the fruit, once my kids were old enough, I gave them a toothpick to stab the squirly, slippery fruit. Much easier than a fork or spoon. \n\nFor meat, my kids ate some ham and turkey lunchmeat cut up…and both of mine loved vienna sausages…they don’t have the casing like a traditional hotdog and they are more mushy so they are easy to gum/chew. :) \n\nGrilled cheese is still a staple…and my kids, even little, loved pancakes…and you can put all sorts of good stuff in those. :) \n\nGood luck!!!

    I felt like it was horrible transitioning Max to table food!! I’m hoping it is a smoother transition with Jake when that time comes!!!

    Libbie will try to eat ANYTHING. I think our success was that we started doing some finger foods as soon as we started solids. (Check out http://www.wholesomebabyfood.com for information on this method.) She has had continual practice on picking up things herself. Melons were especially easy in the beginning for her.

    We do a mixture of plain, whole milk yogurt, prunes, and flaxseed as a constipation aid regularly now.
