Are you a person that likes to see the menus visually? Perhaps you should check out the December 2012 Vegetarian Menu via Pinterest to see the yummy goodness you will be cooking up on this menu. Not sure what Pinterest is all about, check out what Once A Month Mom has to say about it.
Test Cooks
Each month we have some wonderful volunteers who “test” out the menu prior to publication. They do an amazing job of helping to eliminate confusion and mistakes. They may not catch everything but they sure do catch A LOT! If you are interested in test cook, feel free to volunteer. Here is a little bit about this month’s test cooks:
- Nora Stephen - I am a retired accountant and a lover of good food. I enjoy gardening, pets, and charity knitting.
- Stacey Lorenz - I’m a stay-at-home mom to 4 great kids – a 10 year old boy, 7 year old girl, and 1 1/2 year old twins. We are trying to remove all processed foods from our diet. You can read about our progress (and check out some recipes) at SimpleInTheSuburbs.com.

Are you new to Once A Month Mom or once a month cooking (oamc) in general? If so, you might want to spend a few minutes (or hours) on the Get Started Series. If you are in a real hurry to catch on we have written some simple steps for getting started. Welcome!

Is there a December 2011?
Yes there is – http://onceamonthmom.com/menus/vegetarian/
I just signed up and it’s my first time working through a menu, so my apologies if the answer to my question is obvious.
For the Apple Peanut Butter Cinnamon Oatmeal Smoothie, am I blending ONLY the milk, yogurt, applesauce, peanut butter and honey and then freezing that in one bag, with the oats, flax and cinnamon in a separate bag? Or am I just placing the ingredients into separate bags and blending together after thawing?
Also, if dry ingredients are to be blended only after, I assume they don’t really need to be frozen, correct?
Hi Amy, I think it would be fine to either blend the wet ingredients before freezing or after thawing. I like to keep my oats separate, because otherwise when you thaw the texture changes. If you don’t mind that, though, you could certainly blend all of the ingredients together before freezing (or just dump all of the ingredients in a bag and blend on serving day.) If you choose to keep them in separate bags, though, you don’t need to freeze the oats. I do only because it is easier for me to keep everything together that way. Let us know how your cooking day goes and if you have any other questions. Thanks!
The Quantity Needed on the Grocery List does not match the Quantity Needed on the Chopping List for the December 2012 menu. Why is this, and how am I supposed to know how much to buy? I have entered 4 servings in both the Grocery List and the Recipe List, yet, for example, the Chopping list shows I need 16 peppers and the Grocery List indicates I need 4. I am new and feeling that this is not a reliable service, at the moment.
Antoinette, I entered 4 in the cards and don’t see an error. I see 4 red bell peppers on both the grocery list and the chopping list. And I see 6 green bell peppers total in both the grocery list and chopping list. If you find more discrepancies, please email me at kelly at onceamonthmom.com We go through test cooks and a separate audit for all of our menus I assure you we are reliable.
