Are you a person that likes to see the menus visually? Perhaps you should check out the September 2012 Vegetarian Menu via Pinterest to see the yummy goodness you will be cooking up on this menu. Not sure what Pinterest is all about, check out what Once A Month Mom has to say about it.
Test Cooks
Each month we have some wonderful volunteers who “test” out the menu prior to publication. They do an amazing job of helping to eliminate confusion and mistakes. They may not catch everything but they sure do catch A LOT! If you are interested in test cook, feel free to volunteer. Here is a little bit about this month’s test cooks:
- Michele Henson – I am a stay at home mom of 5 kids. We switched over to mainly vegetarian diet six months ago. I work very hard to find recipes that my kids and my husband will eat willingly. With such a busy schedule, once a month cooking has been a lifesaver for us- but I had put it on hold when we changed our diet. I am very glad to have found a program for OAMC that caters to our lifestyle- and the ability to customize for our large family is great!
Get Started
Are you new to Once A Month Mom or once a month cooking (oamc) in general? If so, you might want to spend a few minutes (or hours) on the Get Started Series. If you are in a real hurry to catch on we have written some simple steps for getting started. Welcome!

I wonder if there’s been any consideration of a whole foods vegetarian menu. I know you guys can’t make a menu for each person’s individual diet! But as I look at this month, that’s a whole lot of processed soy, something I try to avoid. Just curious! You all do fantastic work!
In the coming months you will see some changes to the vegetarian menu, it is not going to be whole foods all the way but it will lean more towards “clean eating”.
This is my first month with OOMM. I did my grocery shopping over the past two days, and today I’m doing the chopping. Tomorrow I plan to cook. I’m cooking for four people, and there’s a “4″ in the yellow boxes on each of my sheets, so I at least figured out how to adjust the number of people (I think).
I’m noticing some discrepancies, though, between the numbers on my grocery list and the numbers on my chopping list. Where it says “Quantity Bought,” most of them are the same, but these ones are different:
Cauliflower, chopped–grocery list says 2.68, chopped list says .44
Green onion–grocery list says 4, chopped list says 20…and then, further down, the chopped list says 12, but the grocery list says 4
Green beans–chopped list says 0.5 lbs., grocery list says 1.5 lbs.
What am I doing wrong here?
Also, is there something I could use for the lime leaves? I couldn’t find them anywhere (I live in New Mexico, so the nopalitos were easy to find, but Asian food…not so much).
Thanks!
Kerry – You should only have to put a 4 in the yellow box on the first page/tab and it will change the 4′s on the other pages. I think that this is why you are seeing the discrepancies. Hello! I think your website looks amazing and I would really like to try out the September Vegetarian 2012 Menu and give it a try. I was wondering if you did a Promo Code for a month trial?
Please see FAQ’s (http://onceamonthmom.com/membership/faqs/) for details or Become a Member (http://onceamonthmom.com/membership/join/). We do not do a free month’s trial because we have so many free menus that you could start with those to try it out. And we have monthly memberships.
I’ve been using your meal plans as a guide for several months now…. but I’ll be moving on, the new “membership” stuff is a bummer.
There is still plenty that are free – http://onceamonthmom.com/once-a-month-mom-fall-2012-changes/
Chicken with pomegranate….vegetarian menu? Was that recipe altered, I’m guessing?
In the process of convincing my husband I need the membership to this website. hehe
Yes we adapted to use chicken substitute.
Just paid for a year membership & carefully followed the instructions for the printouts only to discover massive discrepancies between the recipes, the chopping list, and the grocery list. I was working through fixing the chopping and grocery lists based on the recipe cards when I realized (1) I shouldn’t have to do this on a paid membership and (2) why should I assume the recipes are correct when everything else is wrong. This is the sort of complaint I like to take up with businesses privately via email, rather than on discussion boards, but I quickly learned that the contact email address on this sight is blocked in order to prevent “spamming” from customers requiring any kind of assistance. I am utterly amazed.
Gretchen, I am sorry for your troubles but we are NOT blocking emails from clients. Did you email either info at onceamonthmom.com or help at onceamonthmom.com? Also, as stated in the FAQ’s we don’t guarantee no mistakes. We try very hard and have a rigorous process for screening and testing these menus but there is lots of room for human error with our current set up; hence wanting to move to a new platform. Additionally, when we get feedback from readers that there are discrepancies we correct them immediately.
I am having great difficulties in printing all the paperwork needed. Please help.
This post should help you with that – http://onceamonthmom.com/all-menus-saving-printing-google-document-grocery-lists-recipe-cards-instructions/ – if that doesn’t answer your questions we will need you to be more specific and/or email us at help at onceamonthmom.com.
Does anyone know if natural grocers (Whole Foods and local ones) might have the nopalitos? I’m in the Portland OR area and trying to find them closer and easier. I was so sure Fred Meyer would carry them, but it might depend on store location.
It’s worth a phone call to ask before you make the drive! I would call a few local co-ops too maybe?
