What is on Your Christmas Menu? (Giveaway)
It is just 48 hours until the big day, Christmas 2010! I can hardly believe it is here. I know, you are thinking the same thing. Where did the year go? It has been an amazing one though.
Since this is a food blog it is only natural we should talk about food at the holidays, right? I am curious, do you have a big Christmas Eve meal? Christmas Day meal? Day after Christmas Meal? Between Breakfast and Christmas Dinner meal? :)
For us, our big meals around Christmas are Christmas Eve dinner and Christmas morning breakfast. It has become a tradition for us to get together with my mom and that immediate family on the Eve of Christmas for a big meal. Our meal selection usually includes a baked ham and then a bunch of our favorite sides (scalloped corn, sweet potato casserole, pickled beets). Then, on Christmas morning my husband’s family has a tradition of fixing sausage gravy over biscuits for Christmas morning. Even when we are not with them we have kept this tradition.
I know for us we tend to want the same things for our holiday meal. What about you? Do you like those traditions or do you look for something new to make each year?
The National Pork Board has recently been working with celeb Chef Michael Symon to mix up seasonal flavors by pairing pork with unsuspecting holiday favorites like cinnamon, chocolate and pumpkin. Chef Symon shows how pork can be enhanced by almost any ingredient with recipes like “Cider-and-Beer-Braised Pork with Chocolate Mole” and “Coriander and Cumin Roasted Rack of Pork with Five Spice Pumpkin Puree.” Mmm, doesn’t that sound good? Chocolate? Yes, please!
It won’t arrive in time to help you with your Christmas meal, but perhaps your New Years meal? I have a holiday pork kit for one of you! FULL of great products and ideas to spice up your holidays (and your dinner)! Here is what is in the gift pack:

That’s my favorite because I just LOVE pork and sauerkraut!

My favorite holiday meal is a late lunch/early dinner/eat so much you can only eat once today meal we do. We traditionally have “meaty” vegetarian lasagna, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce & lots of pies!
Christmas Eve is our family only meal (just the four of us). We are having a standing rib roast, baked potatoes, mushrooms and sauteed spinach with pine nuts & goat cheese.
Christmas morning tradition is everything bagels with cream cheese and lox!
Then we will go to my parents house for dinner- turkey and ham!
tweet tweet!
For years I have selected traditional Christmas Eve meals from foreign countries. We have done Mexican, German (as this is mostly our ancestry), Swedish, English, Irish, hmmmm, maybe a few more. But this year, due to money constraints I did a OAMC meal. so the sliced turkey and broth are thawing as we ‘speak.’ We will have garlic green beans, sweet potato gingerbread cake, green salad, that darn good chocolate cake from the Cake mix doctor’s recipes, Sweet potato recipe from Saving Dinner, and oh, the turkey will be served with a Pumpkin chutney. Not a fancy meal this year. But should be good. I already prepared a Holiday Breakfast Casserole that is in the freezer for Christmas morning and have cinnamon rolls in the freezer to take out and let rise and bake that morning also. Most important will be the family gathered around!
That is SO COOL! I love your sense of adventure and learning!

Our most important meal is Christmas Day. We cook a ham, pineapple stuffing, homemade bread, veggies and of course desserts. We don’t do it on Christmas Eve since we are at church. I also have an open door policy and anyone that needs a place to go can come over. I always cook too much so I always welcome visitors and people without family to go to.
Any meal that my family and I are together is the favorite meal for me. This year we don’t know what we are going to eat due to the fact my husband was laid off last Friday.
Christmas dinner is our favorite we eat early in the day and we have honey ham, Green bean casserole, potatoes, Corn and more.

This is our first year at home with our kids on Christmas – so I’d say it will be breakfast, just because it’s going to be fun to watch them squirm while they wait to open their presents!
I also subscribe. Thanks for a great year!
In my family the only “meal” with must-have traditional dishes is Christmas Eve. It’s just a bunch of finger foods that we can munch on as we please throughout the evening.
Christmas breakfast this year will be either cinnamon rolls or sticky buns. I haven’t decided which. I love using the Challah dough for them from Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day plus it’s super easy to make them up the day before and then bake that morning.
Christmas dinner varies from year to year. This year my MIL is making lasagna.

We focus our attention on Christmas Dinner. This year we’re having Roasted Tomato and Feta Shrimp, pan fried Tilapia, Greek salad, mac n cheese, french bread and Red Velvet cake.

Every Christmas is different because my family lives around the world. I never know where I’ll be or with whom. I think the most important meal, however, is Christmas morning, when we all sit around and enjoy being together, wherever we are.

We have been a military family for several years, so Christmas isn’t always on the specific date. It’s not the date that is important, it is the traditions and gathering together. We have a prime rib, with pan roasted potatoes, brussel sprouts, and wine… lots of wine :) Growing up Christmas breakfast was always blueberry muffins, sausage, bacon, and butter, lots and lots of butter for those tasty muffins!

The Christmas breakfast is the most important to me. Eggs, some sweet bread (cinnamon rolls, coffee cake, etc), and sausage and bacon. We never established a family tradition for Christmas Eve or later on Christmas day, so we’ve had everything from lamb to turkey to ham to steaks on the grill! Perhaps my husband and I will come up with something…

We have two important meals. First, I make a crockpot breakfast that I put together on Christmas Eve and we all join at the kitchen table for breakfast before opening presents. Then later in the day we have a 3:00 PM dinner ish. Let’s see the crockpot breakfast is an egg, cheese, potato, meat strata and dinner is ham, rice, vegetable, salads, homemade bread and some apples sliced with cinnamon sugar. I may decide to glaze the ham this year. In the past my husband always discouraged me, but now I know it is just because he thinks it isn’t worth the effort. What does he care, if it is my effort? I want to try it, and so I may, as long as I am not crazy busy. Have not had a chance to do any baking though this year. :( WEll, not quite, did make one batch of M&M cookies so far.
Our most important meal is Christmas Eve dinner. We make a Christmas pasta (a Rachael Ray recipe) that is delicious! It has become a tradition at our house.
I wish there was a meal that i made it to every year but my family is very large, not including my in-laws i have 3 different families to try to get to at the holidays. I wish it was more simple, but if we want to see everyone we just go to whatever we can so we dont care what we eat. This year we are aiming for a Christmas day breakfast with one family and Christmas dinner with another and a Day After Christmas dinner with the parents lol. Great giveaway!

Hmmm… our of all our holiday meals, I’d say probably Christmas is the most important, mostly because I always make prime rib and that’s the ONLY time I ever make it! LOL I also make an awesome cream cheese, dried beef, onion and pineapple dip that is a must-have for Christas. Along with the prime rib, I made loaded mashed potatoes, spinach, sauteed mushrooms and yeast rolls.
