WHOLE FOODS JUNE 2011 OAMM Menu (OAMC, Freezer Cooking, Bulk Cooking, Power Cooking)
Splish, splash, crackle, slurp, tweet….ahh the sounds of Summer! Have you been listening to Summer arriving at your house? If not I hope it arrives soon, like I hope the rain here in Colorado backs off to its normal evening thundershowers and nothing more. Although the rain makes me happy to know that my CSA shares this summer and fall will be plentiful and promising! Now we just need the heat to make all the fruit sweet. Have you joined a CSAthis year? Or have you been out to your local farmer’s market to see what’s in store for summer?
We’re at the start of summer therefore the June Whole Foods menu will be lighter, not as time consuming, and not to taxing on your oven or your AC! June brings berries of all kinds, onions, the start of tomatoes, the hearty greens such as spinach, kale, swiss chard, and still that lovable rhubarb. All of your summer favorites are also on sale at the stores near you, so stock up your pantry while you can! This menu reflects the produce and sale items that are in your stores and markets for June.
The Whole Foods menu has Add-On Recipes. These are recipes tailored for you to create almost everything from this menu in your own kitchen. You are more than welcome to make the choice to purchase these items to save time, however I feel you won’t be disappointed with the taste of your hard work, and you will have pride knowing exactly what went into the dishes that you and your family are enjoying. And not to mention, a few extra dollars in your wallet. This menu will take more time to prepare than other menus, so please be sure to read through the instructions and recipe cards thoroughly before you start.
I hope you enjoy these meals as much as our early readers/cooks have. If you are new and not sure how to get started, read here. And there are several other helpful links under the Helpful Hints/Resources section below to help you on your cooking journey. Good luck!

Woo hoo!!! Lookin’ good. Can’t wait to try these recipes!
I hope you know that both your CSA links on this page lead to nothing…I was wondering what it was but guess I’ll be left in suspense :o)
Thanks, we have those fixed now. WordPress did some funny things to some of our links today.
I’m really excited to try this, but I found that some of the amounts didn’t match up between the chopping list-grocery list-actual recipes.
For example (cooking for 2), the chopping lists calls for 10 red onions, but only 1 on the grocery list. It also seems like you need more than 4 lbs of turkey based on the recipes themselves.
Also, there are references to a BBQ Chicken Pizza, but no recipe!
Maybe I’m just new and can’t figure it all out!
I double checked the items you have mentioned as you aren’t the first to mention these things (comments were pending). It turns out the decimal was misplaced on the chopping list for red onions so the grocery list was correct, that is now fixed. As for the turkey, those amounts are correct actually, I double checked the math. And the reference to BBQ Chicken Pizza needed to be deleted from last month. However, it is a great pizza if you want to check it out. :) Thanks! Enjoy your cooking!
Angie – We had a few hiccups with the sheets today and the items you have mentioned should all be fixed now! Thanks for the double check!
I was wondering if you publish the calorie information anywhere? I noticed on the sample label you have it listed, but not on the actual labels. I love your site – have been doing this for over a year with my girlfriends and it has been a lifesaver! I am really excited for your whole foods section.THANK YOU!
Hi Lila, (that’s my niece’s name) I do not have calorie information up on my menu yet. I have quite a bit to do right now and trying to get it into my routine of menu planning and organization is not in the cards right now. I do know there are some great sites out there like sparkpeople.com that you can input the recipe and it will give you nutritional information. Some of the links I have listed have nutritional information on their blogs, like greenlitebites. Sorry but hopefully soon I’ll be able to work it in!
I’m a little confused… is there supposed to be a link for making your own Ricotta Cheese?
See the printable recipe cards. ;)
I hope I’m not asking a dumb question, but when I head to the recipe cards to make the veggie burritos, I see ingredients but no instructions on how to assemble them. Am I missing something? Looking forward to trying them if I can figure it out. :)
Oops! I figured it out. I exported to Excel and did something weird with the formatting. It’s back now. :)
Glad you got it Katie! Sorry I didn’t respond sooner was out in the yard all day! Sometimes Google is funny and takes a few minutes to get that drop down menu but glad it worked now!
I did this for the first time on Sunday. It took me about 6 hours from start to finish and I spent $120 on supplies. I bought all of my ingredients at Trader Joe’s with the exception of the flour which I bought at my local Giant.
There were, of course, several hiccups that I worked through. For example, I wasn’t sure how many tortillas the recipe was supposed to yield and how many servings each meal is supposed to make. For instance, I’m cooking for 4 so does that mean that each 8×8 pan is supposed to be 4 servings?
I’ll certainly be looking forward to the July menu. I am very pleased that I now have a freezer full of meals that I can pull out and enjoy. Thank you for all of your hard work in putting this together.
That’s great to hear Apryl! The servings depend on what you entered into the recipe cards. Did you enter 4? Then yes each recipe should yield enough for you to eat twice if that makes sense. I’m jealous of your Trader Joe’s shopping. I’ll be back visiting my parents in California in just two weeks and have plans to stock up again!
Thanks for the info!
We just love TJ’s and find that it’s less expensive than our local Giant. I had to adjust to not using coupons (our TJ’s does accept them though) in the quantities that I did at Giant but we are so pleased with the quality of the food that we don’t shop anywhere else.
For the spaghetti pie, when I click on the link for it, it takes me to cinnamonspiceandeverythingnice.com and the recipe is the same, with the same quantities, but it only yields 1 pie. On your recipe cards, it yields 2, so I’m a bit confused.
Also, it says 1 cup of spaghetti noodles. Approximately how much is that? (I’m not sure how I would measure that out)
Lisa, when we create the recipe cards we use formulas so that the original recipe will yield enough for your entered serving size to have the meal twice. For example if you entered in 4 to the yellow box on the recipe cards, you will have two pies for two meals. Does that help?
On cup of noodles is approximately a handful of dry noodles give or take. I don’t think there’s a real science to it, I’m a fan of extra noodles. I would say one box of noodles storebought yields 4-6 cups. The other writers may have additional thoughts.
Hi! I hope this isn’t a crazy question! :) When I put a 5 in the box it caculated that I will need 50 eggs, 50 cups of flour, 10 pounds of ground chicken, 40 oz of heavy cream. Some of the items seem okay, like 2 green pepper, 1.25 cups of strawberries, 2.5 zucchini etc. What am I doing wrong??? Thanks!
The best thing to do is go through your recipe cards and verify the eggs on all your recipe cards equal 50 – that would likely be the easiest test. However, those amounts sound about right to me. It is a lot of food!
I just found this site and I am very excited about it! I want to cook that caramelized onion pizza pie and I discovered that the link from the recipe page to the original pizza dough recipe no longer works. :( Any other suggested links for a similar dough? I can find a recipe for pizza dough of course but I’m not sure how much to make since I can’t find the original one that this recipe references. Any help?
Carla does this link work for you? http://onceamonthmom.com/homemade-pizza-dough/
You can also download the June recipe cards and enter in your servings and the recipe card will be perfect for what you need, pizza dough and all :)
For the sundried tomato stuffed chicken breasts – can you make the sauce ahead of time and freeze as well? I am hoping to make this for a freezer group meal and not sure if I can since it looks like the sauce is made when cooking? any advice is appreciated! Thanks:)
Hmm I think you could make it ahead of time, but maybe double it and store it since then when you put it over the chicken to simmer again some of it may cook off? You really want the sauce and the chicken to combine.
I did the prep last nigt and planning to finish cooking and assembling today. Putting updates on twitter and my site, but can’t wait to come back and share. The kids are with my mom until 3:00, so I better get to work!
Can’t wait to hear how the day went! Come back and let us know!
It is 2:00pm. I’m tired. Still not finished.
Great plan! As usual, I made everything a little harder than it had to be. Used dry beans and soaked overnight in vinegar before cooking and decided to make powdered whey using the liquid from the ricotta cheese. My kitchen was a monstrous disaster, but my freezer is now full and beautiful!
Don’t I need 3 crockpots for this menu plan? The instructions say two crockpots, but just below that it instructs me to put 3 different recipes into 3 different crockpots overnight. Am I missing something?
Sorry, I usually catch when we enter hard numbers like that and I remove them. I remove them because the number of slow cookers you need will vary by the number of people that you are cooking for. So go with what is written in instructions. And thank you, I removed that slow cooker # line.
