Are you a person that likes to see the menus visually? Perhaps you should check out the September 2012 Whole Foods Menu via Pinterest to see the yummy goodness you will be cooking up on this menu. Not sure what Pinterest is all about, check out what Once A Month Mom has to say about it.
Test Cooks
Each month we have some wonderful volunteers who “test” out the menu prior to publication. They do an amazing job of helping to eliminate confusion and mistakes. They may not catch everything but they sure do catch A LOT! If you are interested in test cook, feel free to volunteer. Here is a little bit about this month’s test cooks:
- Rachel Cooley - My name is Rachel and I’m a mom to Amelia (6) and Jack (5). They both just started attending a school after homeschooling for the past 3 years. With this newfound free time, I decided to tackle a OAM cooking day.
- Julie Grubb -
Get Started
Are you new to Once A Month Mom or once a month cooking (oamc) in general? If so, you might want to spend a few minutes (or hours) on the Get Started Series. If you are in a real hurry to catch on we have written some simple steps for getting started. Welcome!

Hi! The grocery list for 5 people says to buy 55 hot peppers in addition to 7.5 Thai peppers. I can not figure out what I need 55 peppers for. Is this correct? Thanks for your help.
Sorry that was a typo it is corrected now.
I noticed there are no tortillas for the burritos on your grocery list.
Jennifer, that is because we have an add on recipe card to where you are making the tortillas yourself. You can buy them but you will need to go through the cards to see how many you will need. Eventually with the new system we will have a way to avoid this :)
I just finished this entire plan (I know I’m supposed to be collecting supplies over the month of Sept and then assembling, but, well, I didn’t. I’m a fist timer =) sans pancakes. I knew I was petering out so I left them out as we can throw down a pancake anytime.
I am absolutely loving having everything planned out for a healthy freezer menu, Many of the plans I have tried or researched only offered fattening meals often made with condensed cream of something and we simply do not eat that way. This was perfect.
I learned quite a bit during the process (ran out of some foods and ended up with more of others) and realized I need to plan a bit better.
Question: what is the best way to delete an entire recipe from the shopping list? I’d like to assemble items and try the traditional menu for Sept this month, but there are several recipes that we won’t eat. I was hoping to find an easy way to adapt the menu. I’ve looked around the website, but I could be not looking in the right place.
Thanks again. Happy to be a new member and think it’s totally worth my measly $7/month to have you do all the organizing for me!
Glad you’re enjoying your new OAMM membership! We do not currently offer the ability to remove or substitute recipes on the grocery list. However, we hope to develop more features such as this one as our membership numbers continue to grow. So keep sharing the love. :)
If sharing the love means you will continue to do my work for me so all I have to do is print, shop, prep and slap some stuff in the freezer, consider me all over it!
Looking forward to added benefits as you grow.
I am sooo confused I thought when you click on menu you get a months worth of menu items. I click menus and get three or four breakfast, lunch and dinner recipes which by the way has its own tab so as this is the first time I’ve looked at the site since becoming a member I can tell you that I don’t see one thing that I couldn’t before becoming a member. Glad I just signed up for one month.
Ginger, the recipes listed (as links) are the same whether you are paid or unpaid, what you paid for was access to the recipe cards, instructions, grocery lists, etc below those links. You should read this post before going much further – http://onceamonthmom.com/all-menus-saving-printing-google-document-grocery-lists-recipe-cards-instructions/
Hi, I don’t know if this has been caught yet or not. But the chopping list for the apples says that I need 4 cups of shredded apples – but there is only once recipe that says I need apples – and it is only 1 cup (I’m cooking for 4 in my little yellow box).
I ended up with lots more apple than I needed; so, I made some of those no bake apple cookies, which are fabulous, by the way. :)
Thanks Kim I’ve updated it.
When I print out the recipe cards the full directions does not print. Do I need to format it ?
Yes, formatting is probably the issue – have you gone through this post as it addresses some issues – http://onceamonthmom.com/all-menus-saving-printing-google-document-grocery-lists-recipe-cards-instructions/.
I am having problems accessing the recipe cards. It is saying that a server error occurred and pulls up the spreadsheet without the ability to make a copy or view the recipe cards.
sorry, figured it out
Keep trying or try using a different browser – it could be Google Docs that is having a bad night.
I am also new to this once a month a mom cooking thing. I am going to grate my apples prior to cooking day. should I toss them with lemon juice to keep them from browning? Do the apples need to be peeled?
Yes Lori I would peel them and toss in some lemon juice to keep fresh.
Hello! I love your idea. My family and I recently started eating clean, trying to eat as close to natural foods, and home cooked foods as possible. I would love to promote your product on my blog. Would you be willing to advertise? If not I would love to do a product review. I appreciate your work towards making life a little more simple and healthy.
Sincerely;
Heather Dreier
