Winner and Answer to the riddled giveaway

Monday, we posted a fun little riddle for you in hopes that some of you that like to use your brain might be interested in participating. It was lots of fun to see the answers come in. The answer: I (Tricia) am pregnant! It was a bit of a surprise but very much desired. The explanation to the riddle is below for those of you that are interested.

Here are the persons who answered the riddle correctly and the order in which I received the answers. Remember, the 10th correct answer was the winner of the Dayton’s Mom’s Nite Out Party Pack.

  1. Angela W.
  2. Andrea W.
  3. Becca S.
  4. Cheryl
  5. Erinne F.
  6. Kelly E.
  7. Becca S.
  8. Gray S.
  9. Becca S.
  10. Becca S. – WINNER!
  11. Gray S.
  12. Becca S.
  13. Gray S.
  14. Becca S.

And the meaning of the riddle. . .

First of all, I took the idea of the type of riddle from The Pregnancy Riddle and used 9 lines each with 9 syllables. Obviously, symbolic of the 9 months it takes to create said baby. Then starts the lines.

1 I’ve got a little riddle for you,

Pretty self explanatory I think.

2 One Aries night would start it all off.

Um, we conceived in late March.

3 Cooking and baking and boiling too.

Have you ever been pregnant? One if the reasons I took a pregnancy test is the night before I got into bed and my husband mentioned that I felt like an inferno. That was one of our first clues. All these references are, of course, great analogies to creating a baby as well as fitting for our website.

4 Cupcakes, cottage cheese, ice cream;

These would be a few of my favorite cravings. If I had a few more syllables to work in here I would have definitely listed starches! For dinner tonight I had pasta with Parmesan cheese, mashed potatoes (which I randomly made from scratch the other night), and corn. I have been eating cheeses, especially cottage cheese like there will be a famine of it. Good things I got coupons for it!

5 oh my, oh my the umpteen snacks that are owed!

This is a bit more complicated to explain. Let’s see. My husband is a web designer and developer – hence our grand little website. We have a joke around these parts about how we don’t pay the “traditional” way, you know, like with money. So when we help friends out they like to tell our hubbies that we will “pay” them later. Let’s just say Andrea at Mommy Snacks is getting the bill for this baby! (Sorry if that was more than you wanted to know – I have been hanging out with Jenny a lot lately).

6 But what a surprise and a delight

With a 8.5 month old we weren’t exactly “planning” on getting pregnant (at least I wasn’t). I also have a history of “female issues” that have been diagnosed as not being very good for trying to get pregnant (I will explain more in another post). I also had plans of going to the greatest amusement park on earth, CEDAR POINT before getting pregnant again! So it was a bit of a surprise when we got a positive test.

7 yet, filled with a teeny bit of fright.

You did see that I have an 8.5 month old right? And I am 8 weeks pregnant. That means that the little man will be all of 16 months when the new little one arrives. YIKES! Some days I am not sure I am up for it. I guess we will find out.

8 Patted, kneaded and risen so high

I am certain that I will be patting and kneading my belly many, many times over the next 9 months. And if this child is anything like my first (which I am praying it is) I will be pushing lots of knees out of my ribs. And you guessed it, my tummy will be rising, rising, rising until the end.

9 under a Sagittarius sky.

We are due December 21st. I had the first one at 38 weeks 4 days, I expect that this one will be a week or two early as well. With my history of hypertension they will not likely let me go past the 14th anyway.

Hope you enjoyed my little riddle. Thanks for playing along.

Woohoo! All I did was google the aries/sag. birthday and then realized it was 9 months. I wasn’t sure when you said the other day that people were having trouble, so I asked Gray to look at it. He said, “What else ‘cooks’ for 9 months besides a baby?!” lol

  2. Wow, I totally get it now that I know the answer and have the explanation in front of me! LOL

I’ve NEVER been good with riddles.

Congrats!!! You will definitely have your hands full!

Kinda a bummer that for once I figured it out first and I should have been slower to win the prize! Congrats Becca S for winning and to Tricia of course!

  4. Oh, I am so happy that I was part of this conception!!!!

Anyone who wants a baby can come over and eat my cow and get pregnant (results may vary) :) Will be praying for you throughout the upcoming months!

  5. Hope says:

congratulations! mine are 17 months apart, so I know your worries. a friend kept telling me that “it will get better” and with my son almost 4 1/2 and my daughter turning 3 late June, it does! They play well together and say they are best friends. They are playing so well right now that I have a little computer time! God bless your new addition!!!!

  6. CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!! Couldn’t be happier for you. And I am so glad I am rubbing off on you, what with the “over-sharing” and all. :) Love you!

    CONGRATULATIONS!!!! How exciting!!!

I have to admit, I was completely stumped by the riddle… :) I’ve been following your site for a couple of months now (first post) and just wanted to say thank you! You have made my life easier in so many ways. Congratulations again and here to hoping trimester one takes it easy on you. :)

  8. Andrea Z. says:

  12. Oh! Congrats! It will be hard with two so young, BUT, they will be sooooo close. I love having mine close together… they are such good friends.

  13. cindy says:

congratulations tricia! What happy news. My boys are 15 months apart, and while the first few weeks were exhausting (can you say NO sleep, lol) with a newborn and a toddler, it does get easier. My boys, now about to turn 1 next week and 27 months old, are great together. They are buddies and entertain each other. They recently started “wrestling” and have a lot of fun with it — the baby really can keep his own, although we don’t let it get rough, just rolling around. I love watching them grow and am so happy that they will have each other as friends for always.

We used a baby doll to help prep my older son for the idea of a baby in the house — my husband and I would hold it and play with it, then let him play with it (he still loves to pretend feed and diaper his “baby”). I’m not sure how much he actually understood, but the transition from only child to big brother was successful. He does get somewhat jealous sometimes when I am nursing the little one, but I just make sure to give him some snuggle time of his own (he calls it rocky-baby time).

    Congrats again…be healthy.

    Congrats!

  15. Tami says:

Yea for December birthdays!! Congratulations. And for the record I had NOO idea what the riddle meant.

  16. carriem says:

    Congrats!
My first 2 are 14 months apart, and we are so glad that we did it that way. Everyone who has 2 close always seems to think it was a great way to do it. (In hind sight anyway!) It’s always difficult to add a baby to a family, there are real advantages to staying in baby mode for a few years.

  17. MaryBeth says:

congratulations! i just had to say that i think you will love having them so close together. we had “oopsie” triplets when our first was only 17 months old and they are all four the best of friends now. i won’t lie… the entire first year was hard, but now that they are 2.5 and 4 things are great!!
congrats again… are you still able to work in the kitchen? i vaguely remember that around 8 weeks i became completely unable to even enter my kitchen for fear of smelling something that would make me sick!

  18. Sarah says:

Congratulations! Mine are 18 months apart, and I had much the same feeling to you when I took that pregnancy test. I truly thought I was just late again, and was not in the pregnant mindset. We get 9 months to get used to the idea though, so you’ll be just fine!

  19. Amber says:

Congratulations! I was busy the other day when this post was up on my bloglines and I didn’t read it closely! Phil just said, “hey are ben and tricia pregnant?” I was so mad I somehow missed this :) Gibson and Maya are 16 months apart. Sure it has it’s challenges, but I wouldn’t trade it for the world!!!! They are becoming such great friends :)

  20. Sarah W. says:

I’m so happy to hear we will have another baby in the family! Congrats to you both.
